It was stated in another thread that the issue is with the job engine. It appears that the replenishment build orders are erroneously using modules that require components not found in the Xenon economy (they only have energy, ore, and silicon), and therefore are not completing construction.

The AI is also supposed to build stations according to demand from the economy, so different games will look different.
If Derelict ships are dropped randomly, doens't that mean that ANY guide to finding them, is utterly pointless, thus making the "hunt" for these ships
a waste of time, because the time spent chasing them is better invested in making money to buy them.. so sad.
Hunting for derelicts is indeed a complete waste of time. Just look at ships that have no prefix (TEL, ARG, etc.), those are abandoned. They seem to spawn close to stations and highways and absurd rates, so you don't have to make any effort to find them. Just beware of the mines that sometimes spawn around them.

That`s partly my fear, but I guess they`ll try to avoid that. However with some games i`ve seen Devs go from one extreme to the other...

And then it`ll be MY turn to whine bitterly.
I'm totally expecting this:

"Whaaaa the game's too peaceful my stations can't make money need MOAR WAR!"

A patch later:

"Whaaaa there's too much war, I can't make money cause all trade ships blow up!"

We gamers are a sad bunch.
Yep and round in circles it goes.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

I abused the cheat mod quite a bit to see if I could trigger ship building with no luck. I don't think it was based on lack of resources, my *guess* is the AI is just flat refusing to issue build ship orders.
I have 3 L traders waiting to be built in Argon Shipyard. UI didn't say lack of resources. I have stockpiled resources into the shipyard enough for it to build multiple XL ships. Something broke there apparently.

I've got nearly 40 hours on my save. I have yet to see a single abandoned ship anywhere! I had a couple of pirates bail very early game when I was running v1.0, but they seem to have been made of paper and just exploded.

The spawn rate seems to be bugged somehow. Some people don't see any derelicts at all and some people are drowning in them. I'm 50 hours into a game right now and they only started spawning about an hour ago, but when they started spawning there were suddenly 10 class M derelicts near the highway spread out over several sectors.

When a pilot bails the ship hp is reduced to 3%, regardless of the health before the pilot bailed, so stop firing immediately when you hear the bail message.

I've found three derelict ships so far, two that had mines that had to be cleared first, and one just sitting on it's own way out in space that one of my auto-explorers found.
