I killed a K today. Instant death no timed critical delay and no awesome effects besides the wreck after.

I do home they bring back some the effects from XR overtime :)

Vulkan is only one part of the picture, however, so that doesn't necessarily rule anything out. If, for example, they made changes to their particle system between X:R VR and now then the old effects may not be compatible. Whatever the case may be, I suspect it's not likely to be a simple copy/paste to bring over X:Rs VFX.

As a matter of interest those that played/owned 'XR - VR edition' did that have the lower explosion detail as well?

I remember playing a sci fi game with huge battleships fighting eachother. What sticks in my mind was when one exploded, it blew like a nuke with parts breaking off and secondary explosions as the stricken whale slowly broke apart. I was always impressed by that... I always felt the gravity of such catastrophic destruction.

Kinda sad that a decade later ship explosions don`t have anything like that kick.

Maybe they`ll fix that in X4 eventually.
1. Please do more on NPC civilian/uniform variety, and bio customisations, Devs.
2. Stations need sirens/warnings when enemy is close in numbers or Station in danger of destruction (in Sandbox).
Yes, for immersion. Thankyou ahead of time. (Edit: This is actually happening!!!)

Backing this up! X:R explosions (and many other shader/particle fx) are looking really massive:

Am confident however this will also improve in X4 over time, like more asset creation to make ships and stations look more streamlined.

It was just (for the good!) not the main focus in X4..

Yes, it's hard to believe how many graphical elements have been downgraded compared to X:R.
The ships in X:R look much more detailed, epic. The special effects are noticeably nicer.
All in all, even the backgrounds are more interesting....
Just look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0efykPkzGk

I'm just wondering if Egosoft didn't have time to work on these elements and it will be improved (at least to the X:R level) or not.

I don't want to put X:R over X:4 now, but while X4 is a significant improvement in terms of concept and interface, X:R performs better than X4 in terms of graphics (leaving aside the appearance of the character).

Yeah, I am as well. I definitely feel like Egosoft is trying to not bite off more than they can chew so X4 doesn't launch with the same degree of graphical issues that XR did. Once the game has gotten past its teething issues I forsee some knuckle cracking and "Watch this!"-ing start to happen at Egosoft.

I wonder if the explosions where in the VR version which was XR using Vulkan yet toned down to handle VR.

I agree. The large explosions seem like some sort of alpha placeholder. It's very sad.
