I also really like it the way it is.
You want to make it harder? Then I think it should be a mod, or maybe link it to difficulty settings.
Travel Mode is a HUGE advantage. Thoughts?

It was a woman who drove me to drink... you know I never went back and thanked her.
Don't try to outweird me, three-eyes. I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

- If enemies attack you and you want to get away then you can just use travel mode to escape. The AI doesn't seem to use it and you can't exactly dogfight at that speed anyway so it seems like a pretty huge advantage to the player.
I'm not sure what is going on with your or my game? If I'm engaged I can't use travel mode
- Your Wing is pretty pointless when travelling. If you use travel mode with ships following you that don't use it then they can't keep up and if you get in a fight they will probably be a sector away or more still.
I seem to have mixed luck with this. Sometimes the AI uses the travel mode and keeps up, other times it doesn't.
I havent used SETA yet but surely thats enough and using this would keep your wing together? At least have it so you cant use it when enemies are in close proximity at least, like the the supercruise in ED. I don't get why Travel Mode has been added, if the devs were worried about it taking ages to get to places then just have SETA from the start? I like it and will keep using it I think but if when I get a wing together and they don't keep up then that will stop me I think.
Not sure if you played the other games, but SETA while immensely useful tended to seriously screw the AI up, esp in sector, and caused a LOT of bad stuff.
Just wondering everyone elses thoughts on this.
X games - addictive as heck. Always something to come back to.

I just hit an asteroid doing 3K m/s in my ship whilst munching some crisps in travel mode.
I propose that asteroids have a huge density advantage which is clearly OP and should be nerfed or atleast have severe sanctions imposed upon them!
- On a more sensible note, Travel mode is great, SETA is better and should come after as it affects the entire universe, not just travel.
Of all the things I would tweak, Travel mode does not make the list. This is neither X-Rebirth or Elite: Dangerous. Thankfully.

Take it easy, If you can't - Take it by force.

It shouldn't be nerfed in any way, just fix AI to use it properly...and we will be even.

Wow, lot of opinions! Thank you all for your comments so far, it seems it is a hot topic for sure.
I'm not sure what I would want to change in all fairness, or even if it should. A lot of comments seem to suggest it needs nerfing and others that the AI just needs fixing so they use it consistently maybe? The ships in your wing should definitely use it in sync, the same goes for any ships that are following another. Am I right in thinking that the cruise mode in freelancer made other ships go into cruise mode when the player did?
I do like it, I think I made that clear in the OP, and I'm not sure how I have used it in combat if it's not meant to be used in that way. It would make sense that it is disabled during combat. I don't want it to be like ED. Supercruise works in ED but it's not something that's needed here. I was merely using it as a comparison.
I think in it's current form it just needs a few tweaks and it shouldn't be a top priority at the moment. I just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts about it. The boost using the shield seems to be a hot topic too. I certainly hope the devs have a read of this post.
Again, it;s great reading all this, I don't know what the solution should be but it seems something needs to be changed/tweaked.
