Re: Custom Player Logos
Is there a manual for custom logos?
I found a Guide on Steam for them: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... 1578790122
Like this Guide you can also use glow and a normal map. But what you can not read there is how exactly this image files must look like.
For example the normal map texture, I used xnormal to make one from a self made height map, but I'm not sure if I need Z+ oder Z- (image is than more green than blue)? I now some games have more green normal maps where blue seems more standard. Or must this be a height map or a other format?
Edit: Ok, normal map should be x+ y-. But I can't see any different between z+/z- ingame, so I used z+ for the moment, but that means the question is still open.
Another question : is there a specular map for custom logos?

Re: Custom Player Logos
As far I understand it: complete black should be all of the image that should not glow and what should glow should have the same color like in the normal "logoname_01.png", because all parts that are glowing are replaced with the glowing image. If you use for example a greyscaled glow image, than the logo is complete grey ingame.
The normal map is made out of a greyscaled image, where black is the lowest and white the highest part. And than use for example xNormal (Tools > Height map to normal map - X+ Y- Z+ ... xNormals also install Photoshop PlugIns if you use Photoshop) to convert the height map to a normal map.

Re: Custom Player Logos
There are many possible improvements on your Logo, to much useless pixels on the edge for example.
Other question: are this Custom Logo on all my ship? So more a player faction logo?

And to make sure nobody repeats my mistake, here is what i changed.
I had "Convert to sRBG" selected. once i de-selected it, it worked just fine.

Super happy to get my own art into space

Cool.
I'm going the .tga route myself (read somewhere that it reads the alpha channel better, can't confirm but doesn't hurt). You can also make normal maps for your logos, so they can look more like "incisions" in relief, embossed, can be useful for more "stylized" logos. The nvidia tools for Photoshop will let you do them better, but if you want to generate them on the fly you could try this online tool http://cpetry.github.io/NormalMap-Online/. Just pick Model:Plane and set the strenght and level of the filters as you see fit.
As I see in your folder you have a pony art logo, just for the sake of having a laugh, I've myself used some "Lunar Republic" pony logos to learn.

First three - even from a bit afar - thanks to the glow should let you see the emboss illusion. Next one from this pic you can't see, but the actual stars, inner logo etc are clearly embossed when you look closer...

And it glows in the dark!

Re: Custom Player Logos
For some reason I still can't figure out how to make the eyes glow but not the rest. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have tried 2 different directions that has been posted yet both have questionable steps that either not explained correctly or something. I even experimented a few on my own, still no luck.
If I load the Logo_01.png just by itself, it works fine and no glow. However when I add Logo_01_glow.png then the whole glows instead of the eyes. I just can't figure it out. I even added Logo_01_normal... no luck.
Is there a youtube video of how to do this with GIMP 2? I can't tell if i am missing a step or made mistake somewhere.

Re: Custom Player Logos
Would be interesting to see how game engines reacts to GIF images ....
If it accepts them, then you are opening a door to ANIMATED PLAYER LOGOS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always thought Egosoft could have used GIF images for the station windows. That way you could see people walking by, working or even waving at an imaginary person in space (or at you!).
