maybe, but that's not up to us to decide. And once it's already in I plan to use the better of it (or leave it be, but I liked Rebirth stations, even when they were empty and talking was forced pain after hours, but mod-able so no harm done).

As they've added FPS to Carrier Command. People were complaining it doesn't hold ARMA/CS standard but it was really nice addition to the game for me. I like big carriers and the feeling being there personally :) (And that game really had very effective way how to command/control several air/land vessels and coordinate everything either from a wheel position or map. Something that could be excellent in X games but the UI is way too far from anything that smooth and AI is not even meant for smooth control/command transition.)

Expect a playable game somewhere around 2020. I'd recommend watching streams after the release to inform yourself.
Ofc ***modified***, modders doing what Egosoft cant.

And same as people should not have expected Rebirth to be X4 (AKA continuation of X3), the X4 should not be expected to be ehm. "X4" (AKA continuation of X3). Despite the "name" which is just.. a name and nothing more. They couldn't name it X2: Foundation, like they did with The Threat.
Well using the X4 name knowing what it means for the community in the way you describe would be quite a suicide :D

And lots of mechanics are back from X3 which were missing from XR if you watch the vids and read the info available - no idea how can you think it will have nothing from X3.

This Game does not own the right to be named X4.... XR was a disaster as people expecting an X Game but got something completely new/different (these Highways in space is the most crap). X4 looks not like any previous X-Game before. Whoever is the designer of this game, has not played the previous Games i guess. Players like me comming from X1 to X3 had already accepted the overall Game Design was changed... a Solar Power Plant in X1 is something different than you see in X3... it was already no longer the same view and it took a while to feel back home. I tried 4 or 5 times to play XR but this game is so different that i am already scared on X4. Every X-Game had also an interesting storyline that feels like an adventure in space... yes and i also read some of the X Books... it was great. All X1 to X3 Parts had a good storyline (after the bugs were fixed for sure). Now you tell me this is X4 and no Storyline... i tell you guys... this is probably a space game... BUT NEVER AN X GAME. And the part of moving arround like a 1st person shooter.... this was never missing in any previous X-Game and therefore the time you wasted here is the result of loosing the X Factor of your Game Series. You should have a look on Sid Meiers Civilization Series... they never lost the overall focus of the good Gameplay from Version 1 to Version 6.... were you guys lost it now with Version 4 and already with Version VR.

nah, only "not-so-bright" people and there's no pity for them. Opportunity to learn.

I don't know if He played the games, but He is the same person that designer ALL X games since X1 to X4 and hopefully more. And let's face it X1 was pretty awful as well compared to any other game back then. It only had better graphics, but lacked in every other area. Even compared to old Elite 2. So don't fall for that nostalgic "old games were great, new ones are garbage" just because they are different and you've lost the ability to adapt.

X1 to X3 are the same game with pretty much same everything, jeez, stations look different and they can be connected now... what a big change. If you played X2 and had problems adapting to even X3, whew...

some X games do, some don't, some do, some don't. Thing is X games are not played for story really. And free start still suits them. A lot of people didn't cared about story, never finishing it. I did, and I will miss it in X4, but can live without it. It's not like there are no plots whatsoever. Just not the main campaign, that's all.
Moonshinemister wrote: Sat, 24. Nov 18, 18:50 this is probably a space game...
this is funny, I've never considered X games a "space games". There is nothing "space" in them (except of course space pirates who stole space cash from the space bank running from space police so they don't go into space jail). The core gameplay would work exactly the same with navy ships or trucks. Just because the game has star skybox doesn't make it a space game. Late Rebirth and X4 are the first that actually try to resemble a space.
Moonshinemister wrote: Sat, 24. Nov 18, 18:50 1st person shooter.... this was never missing in any previous X-Game
not a "shooter". But "1st person" is a thing since X2? (Wiki says X:Tension, never played that, it wasn't in X1.) And in my eyes Rebirth has a LOT of X1 resemblance. Just better in every aspect.

that's funny. I've never played it beyond Civ 3. But friends of mine who do are all stuck with Civ IV, saying it's the best and has the best mod support. And while they own civ V they never played it much and went back to 4. So I will take your words with reserve.

Why, ES named quite a few in Q&A thread:
Dynamic faction AI, destructible stations, flyable ships, several plots instead of one main campaign, ship loadout, fleets instead of single player squad, mouse&keyboard as main input, focus on asset control and map, player designed complexes...
Actually some features like dynamic faction AI and eco changes mentioned sounds like an improvement on the X3 approach, where XR was a step back due to its way more static game world.

so that's a confirmation I guess, even you don't know any. Nothing from the list qualifies. X4 doesn't have much (if anything at all) of what was X3-uniq.
