I think they are waiting with this trailer utill they are 100% sure they are able to provide accurate release date.

It's not like we don't know they anoounce 2018 and that they are on track with no delays so far.

It's safe to assume the release would be in December, problably shortly before christmass season - I guess mid December would be optimal.

But they would have to be the worst devs in the world to be that silly. It would be better to delay it early Jan and become the new game of 2019 then to release it right before a holiday. if anything bad happens they will not be redeemed a 2nd time on steam reviews.
Or they are so confident in X4 and testing that they don't worry about any game breaking bugs.

X4 is to XR like X3:TC to X3:R.

I don't remeber any huge issues with X3:TC.

The biggest AAA Companies in the world have released games with massive game breaking bugs. They shown in the past another story as well. I mean already I assume they said soon on trailer / release date then ran into issues and delayed it. Maybe was editing reasons maybe was something else but I mean we were still waiting for a English version of the gamescon or whatever video that we were told that would happen.

This a company that I love and hate when comes to bad transparency. It's like talking in riddles telling us part of it but not the full thing that gets people to have to guess what the heck is going on all the time.

I doubt this will change it's just the way they always been. I do like how they been a bit more transparent but their acting like all the sudden they got some sort of crazy publisher again telling them what to do.

I'm sure they are working hard on the game right now. Pressure is already building up for Egosoft. We shouldn't demand more media. Just let them create the game. A new video is certainly not enhancing the final product for me.

Oh I can wait I just don't know why they keep firing off messages of (hope) then not deliver I guess. I rather them to focus on the game they clearly don't have a PR skills and that is fine their small and tight budget.

Communication is well enough… I'm also impatient to have the game and check every hour for a new Screenshot or any kind of info on the release date…

But it's just fine this way!!! Some of Ego still communicate on developpment, even give 1-2 screens a day… It's more than we ever had before any X release so far, Am I wrong? :D :D :D

I just wish they held their tongue more I mean this thread being created is a good example. Seen posts on twitter, reddit even steam with impatient people.

Sadly Soon should be something everyone has a concept of but the joke is also a pathetic as well. Best to wait till you actually know when soon is rather then spewing soon lol.

It's like Q it seems like for just causing Chaos :P

I dono, to me hearing them say soon for a trailer release is great, as it shows they have confidence in their work enough to show it to people much like with the previous livestreams.

Ontop of the fact said trailer has been noted to also include the release date for the game.

We've all waited 5 years for this moment, whats a bit longer if it gives them the proper amount of time to apply all the polish it needs?

This.

Also, this: None of us can just decide that we don't want to wait any more and start just playing the game. At this point the wait is mandatory. So enjoy the wait and let the good people working hard on our game have a chance to make the best game they can.

I'm guessing that the trailer and release date will coincide with the forum update. They want to make the forum looks as nice and spiffy as possible for when the release date announcement is made. They also said they would release the trailer "soon" in order to give a few days lead time to generate hype.

I just finished playing a game of Civ5, and almost thought for a moment I could click "Next Turn" on life to make the time go a little faster :)

TBH I'd be more interested if a couple of level headed Twitch streamers got early access to play and share their thoughts, I find trailers these days a poor representation of the player experience even if proper gameplay footage is used.

From my experience Twitch streamers as well as being content creators tend to be pretty dedicated players themselves and have a good finger on the pulse of popular opinion so if they spot something they think is wrong you should probably take note.

Yeah but it's a fine balance between finding a "level headed twitch streamer" (in itself no mean feat) and one that will not let his personal preferences kill his opinion of the game.

We see a lot of that here on the forums already, if that were to happen on a big twitch channel, it could kill the game before it's launched.

I've been trying to promote X4 to some of the big twitch streamers I watch and I've only got 1 cities skyliens streamer excited about it. Everyone else hates the idea of new space sim and says they'd rather wait for Star Citizen to finally come out (Ha! as if that'd ever happen)

Yeah, that happens when crowdfunding goes insane levels.

There are multiple analogies on youtube on this, but basically they all say that according to the crowdfunders right now, Star Citizen IS the spacesim. If there are alternatives, they are lower grade games. And since Chris Roberts managed make people spend even thousands of dollars on his unfinished product, customers have gotten attached to it - so much that they are pretty much hurt if a single negative rumour, criticism, or other (more worthy) competing game surfaces.

Hell, even I would be pretty bummed if I paid thousands of dollars many years ago for a game that has a big goal, but only consists of different modules so far. It's just human nature, trying to cope by minimizing the risk and loss. I'm not saying that it's impossible that it will be a great spacesim game sometime, all I'm saying that customers were somewhat deceived when they got them into this race to buy all these unique ships probably eons before the game came out. And when the game does come out, there's no guarantee anymore that the individual player will actually like the game.

This the kind of people I don't want streaming the game.

Only way I will touch SC is if I can play SP / My Own server like they had stated years ago if it still happens.

It makes a lot of sense. Trailers always cause a spike in forum activity (here and anywhere).

They'll save the trailer for after they've got the new forum up and running, and then its release will double as their first test run of the code.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

You don't even need to guess that trailer and release date coming with new forum, it is all in attached screenshot.
