I'm pretty sure they will make some core sector spawn materials stations or ships out of thin air just in case economy is about to collapse(im actually fine with that). I think planets shouldn't have much influence besides population that we can hire for stations. Not in this game anyway.... Modifying their appearance over time to make player fell like they are making difference in uneverse would be easier on devs and it would be fun feature. Also in a future game DLC they could always add more mechanics. One of problems in XR that they wanted to add many things (new mining,drones,economy,FPS...) and than they couldn't polish all of them at the time for release.
It's not world hunger because we can't feed poor,it's because there will never be enough to feed the rich .....

I want to remind that the original post had nothing to do with terraforming or landing, or anything that changes the planets visual appearance from what they already are. But instead is about a station that provides a connection to an unseen economy, implied to exist on the surface, but only simulated in very rough numbers under the hood. A station that can be balanced. And really just is there to make it feel less like a space nomad society and more like the planets actually exist.
