@ stevee620: " .. i added my first mod. But then i removed it completely .."

I suggest doing a clean game reinstall along with reinstalling all the recommended support applications offered from Steam when you do so. Your problems all seem to stem from when you modded the game and it sounds as though you have corrupted something important. You can find advice at the end of this.

It is perhaps also noteworthy that all the posters with the similar issues in this thread have Nvidia GTXs.

Thank you Alan, i'll try what you suggest. Is it possible for a game to completely lock up your pc though, even if a file is corrupted? Where you need to hard reboot? As someone earlier in this post seems to think not. Also, are there any settings that i could try relating to this game in my GTX nvidia settings? I'll let you know how i get on.
Stephen.

Game code as written shouldn't ever do that as CBJ says. Corruption however (in game code or associated services, libraries, drivers, etc) could maybe send execution to random addresses that perhaps might.

Sorry, I'm an AMD user. There should be some threads with 'best' NVidia setting profiles for Rebirth (GeForce Experience maybe has one too?) that could give you hints. This for example maybe?

Settings alone will not resolve corruption, if any.

Alan, the game has almost downloaded now. Could you please tell me where i find the "support applications" on Steam? Do you mean the hotfixes bit on the game page? I just want to make sure.
Thanks,
Stephen.

P.S. I've just re started the game, and i still have saves that are incompatable in the list. I don't understand that. i deleted the egosoft folder from documents after i uninstalled the game. Also, the virtual store folder is empty too. :?

I meant things like Rebirth's in-folder DirectX 9 and Visual C++ stuff that loads whenever you install a Steam game and run it the first time.

Incompatible older saves with a pure vanilla game install means that those saves probably have vestiges of mods left in them, have themselves been corrupted, or the beta/release/DLC status is incompatible between the saves and the installation.

I let nvidia experience optimize my card for the game. The only thing i've lowered myself is the LOD to 50. Nvidia set it to 100. Just played it for over an hour no probs touch wood. But its early days yet. I noticed its changed the resolution of the game, if i'm not mistaken to the same as my desktop. I know that that can cause crashes if they're different, but its usually a ctd, not a lock up.

I'm hoping that the clean reinstall would have done the correction although optimising your graphics can rarely hurt. Good luck.
