I downloaded and installed an older version of the driver for Intel Graphics HD 3000 from Asus website (my computer is Asus N75SF)., and the game finally starts.
Thank you for helping me with this issue and sharing your computer knowledge
The more important thing is that when playing X3 (or any other graphics-heavy application) set to use just the Nvidia card, the Intel driver should not even be running! I guess there is something amiss in the OS/BIOS graphics changeover set-up or interaction with the graphics chipset/card drivers. Maybe even the process of transfer of graphics processing to Nvidia is what is crashing the more recent Intel driver? Perhaps a newer BIOS is available to fix that.
I cannot advise on your particular Notebook any more than that, sorry. (I did notice that there were several versions of your Asus N75SF Notebook though, some with different VRAM capacity of, or even no, Nvidia card - perhaps the Intel driver has to be very, very specific!)
Otherwise I would broadly suggest that if it is working now, then perhaps leave it alone ...
You have been very helpful and I learned a lot on how to solve computer problems now so thanks
I checked the BIOS version from Asus website. I was running 210 version and 214 was available so I followed the instructions and installed the newest one (another thing I learned). I don't if it is going to be very helpful tho.
