Does anyone think our main protagonists Ren "my personality is based on the first 20 minutes of the hobbit's bilbo baggins, but with more beige," Otani and Yisha "Skimpy Titwindow" Tarren sound somewhat milqetoast?

Do we not think that basing Ren off of Han Solo instead of some 12 year old petrified of the cops would make for a more interesting story?

Skimpy is less awful, but only because I use a mod that stops her irritating dialogue with betty, humm, betty, how about H.A.L 9.5k, instead of betty?

Opening scene: "the choice of the rustyhand mortar or the melted glock" Ren, a privateer, who has managed through guile and a little luck, to stay on the good side of most of the companies in his system, has, unfortunatly, come off rather poorly on the other hand with the other criminal syndicates, resulting in a price being put on his head.
His Triath Vanguard is barely held together with duct tape and gritty hope,
the Balor he got with his inheritance a distant memory,
when he comes across an antique, but considerably more spaceworthy ship, the Pride of Albion....
Shame his spacewise cunning does not extend to the technological know how to un-botch the Pride, perhaps mothballed, in a parking orbit around a nondescript roid in the back of nowhere. Its obviously desperate owner sold off parts, and ominously never returned...

Ren, despite his finesse with baling wire, chewing gum and vast amounts of duct tape, realises he is out of his depth with the Pride, (while it may well be older than him, its still an exotic military prototype), thus decides to replace specialised systems with slightly more modern modular hardware, that he may actually be able to patch together with an external operating system.
He visits a lagrange junkyard, (an area with little to no gravity in any direction, practically the first thing found when a spacefaring species decides to settle an area, because having space junk, like a ceramic coupling for an apogee adjuster making an unannounced visit through everything in its path at 3/5ths of 299.792.458 m/s is, well, unwelcome.)

While looking at a few likely wrecks, he receives a different type of visitor, who, to cut a long story short, is a great deal more adept at coaxing the Prides reluctant and cantankerous firmware out of its "Stealth" ultra low emission state. mainly by the judicious use of hackerchips and patching.

OK, first that idea makes Ren seem like an idiot, so heres my take on that:

Ren sees a old ship sitting in a parking orbit around a rather large roid and stops to see if there are any survivors. Its is empty, and somewhat larger and better condition than the shot up fighter hes been pushing around. He has a quick check and with some serious study from the library computer, manages to get emergency power on and life support. Now hes inside trying his best to understand a system hes never worked on before, and after a few small successes, hits a brick wall in his limited knowledge of ships systems. But it does fly...albeit slowly so he starts towards the nearest scrapyard, and some new parts and advise.

When he gets there, he sees a really serious argument going on between the owner and a young lady who demands hes scamming her, saying the parts at a REAL shipyard aren't that expensive! But Ren walks in and they have to stop and he explains what he needs and the girl jumps in, saying that 'for a small fee' shed help get him going, and with that pay the exorbitant prices she needs for her parts too. He agrees but she doesn't tell him that shes wanted...something they both realize just as she gets the engines operating properly and the main computer online.

Before he can stop her, she takes control and the race is on, and after a few minutes they lose their pursuer and Ren gives her a good piece of his mind while she makes sure he realizes that without her he'd probably be dead or in jail now...so its a tie, and they make a deal. They stick together until the ship gets properly repaired and he will find her a safe place to hide out. It seems easy enough...but will it be??

Aaaannnd we're back. Albeit a week later than anticipated. Thank you holidays.

While fixing Ren would be nice it's one of the few areas that I'm personally not going to touch.
