I'm not voting on this one because I have mixed feelings when it comes to this particular game. I have always come here in the past for my "X" game mods, however I use the nexus site for many of my other favorite games. In my opinion the nexus site is a very good community site particularly for games that do not have a huge mod community of their own. On the subject of personal information. They never said it had to be factual, in fact this has to be my 5-6th account here from changing emails, losing passwords, etc. On the subject of a scam for premium servers. The web site has been undergoing major restructuring of it's database to make it faster, and the site has been up for many years before ever offering premium servers. I would encourage you to check out the nexus network button on the top right of your screen when your there and see if any other games you like are hosted there. If so support the site if you enjoy it otherwise it's completely free.
Edit - Dang, forgot to even make my point. I consider the alternative location for this game to be the nexus. Most of the mods I use are on this forumn.

This is simply people afraid of change... nexus has proven its reliability time and time again. No need to rag on it because it requires an e-mail address and because you didn't read their announcements.
Doya guys know how many links I've found dead from X3:R/TC? Because they aren't hosted on a place like the nexus? It's a tad ridiculous.

Apologies for the downtime guys. It's been a tough time but it's been on the cards since the beginning of the year. In true Nexus fashion we worked on it for 5 months and still didn't manage a smooth transition. It wouldn't be the Nexus if it didn't take the hardest route possible to completion. Time and time again though I'm reminded of how great the community is. So many kind, patient remarks from people rather than hate-filled ranting. I've really appreciated it, so thank you.
Some good news, however, as we're almost ready to add X Rebirth to NMM. Naturally delayed while we sort out all the mess

Would be so much better if X Rebirth was on curse. As modder you'd get a curseforge site that sync's with curse and the curse client. It includes a repository (GIT, SVN, Merc), ticket system. (www.curse.com / www.curseforge.com) and wiki pages. And if your mod gets downloaded more then 500 (or 1000) times a month, you will get free curse premium account.
As player you wouldnt have to register with big mods, only 3 sec wait before download starts. The curse client (addon/mod manager software) works perfect aswell. The only limitation as free user is that you can only download 2 mods at the same time.
Give XR on curse!

Not paranoia, at least not in my case. I'm simply not going to pay for access to simple mods. There are plenty of sites out there that you can use at no charge to host 7 Zip and WinZip files.Ndyil wrote:The reason for page not found errors is a very simple restructuring of the website's path structure... Also, the only reason nexus ever requires you log in is if the mod download is >2MB or if it is flagged as adult content. The latter of which won't even be visible on the site if not logged in. Signing up for the site also requires pretty much no personal information. Just an email address really, which could easily be some obscure tertiary email address you created just for the site if you're worried, so I'm not sure what the paranoia is for.
Kudos to the modders that are including alternate download sites. Also, association with Nexus Mods should be an automatic disqualification for gaining moderator status on the Egosoft forums. I have emailed Egosoft with this request.

Then its likely a reading comprehension problem. They *don't* require you to pay to download or upload mods.Degasai wrote: ...

I seriously don't understand a person who goes through the effort to raise a stink about a subject they clearly didn't research.

Mea maxima culpa...
You are all absolutely correct, and I was wrong. My only excuse is that it's been a tough week
I was misled by the opening tab in the registration process that has a number of checkboxes that, if chosen, commit you to anywhere from 2-50 pounds for a Premium membership. It wasn't clear to me that there was an option to just continue the registration process to create your account.
also, the only personal information of any kind that is required is an email address. If you're on Steam, you've already got your email address in probably the least secure place on the net
My sincere apologies. I'm a big fan of mods and the modding community. Most of the game mods on Nexus are ones that I own. If, as I suspect, I find Nexus as useful as it appears to be, I'll probably support those who are hosting it and maintaining it.

It's ok. If it's any consolation a few people have said it's not clear enough you can skip the first step and you're not the first. Issue is that the module we're using as our payment gateway is an off the shelf package, IP.Nexus from the same people who made our forum software (Invision Board), but this module is encrypted/encoded and we can't get in to the source code, so I can't change the text.
