Oops, didn't even notice this thread here!

After having logged thousands of hours in Reunion, TC and AP using classic flight mode (where the cursor is locked into the crosshairs, giving the user absolute control of their ship), I've grown exceptionally accustomed to it. So, that said, the first thing I did when I entered into this game is find out how to turn it on.

I had no luck finding it... and now I see why.

The loss of this option is devastating for me. I tried so many times to get used to this "drag the ship around" cursor system they implemented in TC/AP/R... and I just can't get into it at all. I don't feel like I'm in proper control of my ship. Using classic flight mode, I could skim so close to capital ships that you could barely wedge a piece of paper between the two vehicles. I would zig zag at full speed between posts of stations and around fins/tails of battleships. I've never been able to accomplish that with this click and drag system. :(

I truly, truly hope we see this option in the future, for those of us long time fans who became accustomed to the old system. It would certainly be a boon for us.

I actually don't remember this...But considering that TerraCorp's HQ is roughly the same station design, my system drops FPS in X3:AP a little bit when I stumble into that system. My system also dislikes The Hole for some reason. I also only logged about 20 hours into X3:TC. X3:AP was more fun, even though I have yet to play the actual campaign mode.

For Rebirth, there's definitely some gnarly FPS drop, but it runs smoother than I expected. But then again, I've barely left the Albion system (and have a total of 2 hours played thus far while Egosoft works the major bugs out).

It is actually possible to get a refund from Steam. They really don't like advertising it, but it largely depends on whether the game developer will help you solve a technical issue that renders the game unplayable.

In my case, I tried to run Elder Scrolls: Oblivion on a Windows 7/Server 2008R2 machine and discovered that the game crashed right at the beginning as you try to turn around after starting a new game. Steam support said to bug Bethesda, and Bethesda told me they don't support anything higher than XP, so I shouldn't have downloaded it in the first place. Which is BS, because Steam stated XP is the "recommended" setup at the time, but had no warnings about its unplayability on Vista+. So I went back to Steam, and they refunded me and told me to be more careful next time.

In this case, because Egosoft is likely working their asses off to fix problems, many people won't be getting refunds directly. I suspect there's been a lot of credit card chargebacks, though.

I have been feeling some weakness in my wrist as of late, yet it doesn't seem to be the mouse or KB use doing it, but my heavy-duty, commercial-grade vacuum cleaner which weighs about 25-30lbs. So I think I am good for now :)

I do have everything else, though -- large mouse area, capability to finely tune things directly on the mouse itself or via SetPoint (Laser G9x), and very good health insurance :)

However, since X3 the joystick did not feel right hence the joypad preference (Saitek Dual Axis pad - got an X-Box controller to see what all the fuss was about and have barely used it since the sticks are in wrong positions and the analogue triggers are poorly used IMO).
I have the Extreme 3D Pro as well, but I found it way too stiff for me to use comfortably. I finally just took it apart and removed the tension spring that auto-centers the stick, which made using it a lot easier (for some reason, I can cope w/ the lack of auto-centering), but it still felt unnatural to me. At some point, I should probably hunt down a less-stiff spring and put it into the unit. They spring I took out is probably 12 or 14awg, so it's pretty stiff.

Kumba42 wrote:I am aware of that kind of mouse steering, but that's not "direct" mouse steering. I don't have a better word for it. In X3:TC/AP, if I move the mouse, my ship moves *instantly* -- there is no cursor or reticule that I have to move a certain amount first before the ship beings to move like there is in Rebirth.

The fact that my eyes can actually see the cursor moving as I move the mouse means I can't easily use Y-axis inversion. It's like using a normal Windows desktop, when you move the mouse down, the cursor goes down. Move the mouse up, and the cursor moves up. That's what my brain expects when I can see an actual cursor. But with inversion turned on, my brain knows that I am pulling the mouse down, but my eyes see the cursor moving up, and that just conflicts with my motor senses in my brain. So I have to turn the inversion off just to be able to play the game smoothly.

However, when in true first-person mode, such as when outside of the ship and walking around, there is no mouse cursor to see. Just the small targeting reticule. Inverting the Y-axis feels more natural there (as it does in many FPS games). But as soon as you get off of the ship, there's a few seconds where you're mentally re-adjusting to having inversion turned on versus off, and ditto for getting back onto the ship.

Quite honestly, just getting rid of the mouse cursor while in flight might help a little. Sure, it'll be a bit tricky (the targeting reticule is still visible, so that'll help) to center my viewpoint, but seeing the cursor is really what throws me off. Maybe I am weird...
yes I understand what you mean you do not like the floating curser that your ship tries to catchup to when you turn you want the ship to stay with the curser as you move it and stop when you stop instead of continuing to move until you put the curser back to center with the ships firing redical. yes we most certianly need this option back I miss it greatly so far this is my largest issue with game
Attention: All of your ships are under attack
