I actually don't remember this...But considering that TerraCorp's HQ is roughly the same station design, my system drops FPS in X3:AP a little bit when I stumble into that system. My system also dislikes The Hole for some reason. I also only logged about 20 hours into X3:TC. X3:AP was more fun, even though I have yet to play the actual campaign mode.
For Rebirth, there's definitely some gnarly FPS drop, but it runs smoother than I expected. But then again, I've barely left the Albion system (and have a total of 2 hours played thus far while Egosoft works the major bugs out).

It is actually possible to get a refund from Steam. They really don't like advertising it, but it largely depends on whether the game developer will help you solve a technical issue that renders the game unplayable.
In my case, I tried to run Elder Scrolls: Oblivion on a Windows 7/Server 2008R2 machine and discovered that the game crashed right at the beginning as you try to turn around after starting a new game. Steam support said to bug Bethesda, and Bethesda told me they don't support anything higher than XP, so I shouldn't have downloaded it in the first place. Which is BS, because Steam stated XP is the "recommended" setup at the time, but had no warnings about its unplayability on Vista+. So I went back to Steam, and they refunded me and told me to be more careful next time.
In this case, because Egosoft is likely working their asses off to fix problems, many people won't be getting refunds directly. I suspect there's been a lot of credit card chargebacks, though.

I have been feeling some weakness in my wrist as of late, yet it doesn't seem to be the mouse or KB use doing it, but my heavy-duty, commercial-grade vacuum cleaner which weighs about 25-30lbs. So I think I am good for now :)
I do have everything else, though -- large mouse area, capability to finely tune things directly on the mouse itself or via SetPoint (Laser G9x), and very good health insurance :)

However, since X3 the joystick did not feel right hence the joypad preference (Saitek Dual Axis pad - got an X-Box controller to see what all the fuss was about and have barely used it since the sticks are in wrong positions and the analogue triggers are poorly used IMO).
I have the Extreme 3D Pro as well, but I found it way too stiff for me to use comfortably. I finally just took it apart and removed the tension spring that auto-centers the stick, which made using it a lot easier (for some reason, I can cope w/ the lack of auto-centering), but it still felt unnatural to me. At some point, I should probably hunt down a less-stiff spring and put it into the unit. They spring I took out is probably 12 or 14awg, so it's pretty stiff.
