I think I'd be happier with the highways if (Mind, this is a what-if, most of it is probably not moddable):
- There was no fake traffic at all.
- The Skunk is not the slowest ship in the universe, but somewhere in the upper middle. (Roughly two-thirds speed bar instead of a tenth.)
- This way if you want to go fast, the minigame becomes -dodging- the slower ships you encounter. No traffic in DeVries is actually a boon instead of a penalty.
- Currently boosting in the highway seems to not only speed up yourself but everyone else as well. If it only sped up you, you could use the booster to catch up to the wake of faster ships that pass you and latch to them.
- If possible, increase the distance the ship keeps to the ships you're using the wake of. Currently the Skunk tailgates them so closely it ruins the pretty view of the sector.
- Possibly some form of speed control and/or way less booster shield drain.
Tangentially related:
- Also, I guess autopilot would be good. Make it stick to the middle lane, maybe don't let it boost, but make boosting and lane changing in the highway -not- cancel it. Same possibly for boosting in normal space to get places faster.
- Skunk and drones' non-boosting speed should be faster. I find the Overcharged Mk5 to be the only engine that is actually bearable. :I

The question is if M class ships boost without script changes.Observe wrote:2. Eliminating the local highways will not impact the economy. Ship carrying wares (large and small) will traverse empty space on their way to different zones where stations reside.
Edit: Oops. These forums should totally merge smaller posts by the same person.
