Cropping the cockpit..

The cockpit is nice but intrusive, for me at least. It also depends on the fact that you can not free look out nor inside the ship, so it is claustrophobic. Whenever this feature is implemented the things can change, up to then a bit less intrusive cockpit would be great, something inbetween. Removing is not a solution, X3 was flat view

I completely disagree with this point in the context of this Mod discussion, we are talking about a cropped or reduced cockpit not its removal.

I do find it funny people trying to remove the cockpit when so many in X3 tried to add a cockpit. heh...irony.

It's always been different players.
Virtual HUDs started coming up as early as Wing Commander 2 or 3.

Rebirth with it's enforced cockpit was merely a step back by some 20 years.

It depends on perspective really and the players opinion. When I was playing TC and going through the forums, there were may posts from people asking for cockpits. And of coarse modders created image overlays. All well and good.

X Rebirth comes around and we get our cockpit, and a fine one at that. If you have ever really seen a real cockpit, especially in a bigger craft (747) the actual external view area is small. Much of it is a wall of nobs and other avionics.

As for the Skunk...you have a side by side cockpit with a center divide and looks to bee the main control computer down that divide. The outside view is actually what I would expect from a larger craft, sadly the game also treats it as a fighter...so it is natural people want a broader view. But as it is, the view is reasonable.

What is not reasonable is that the only true interface (Right display) can not be toggled and adjusted. That display should be the perfect place for menu interactions and information display, but it is under utilized.

Technically seeing that this is 900+ years in the future, they should also be using a version of the helmit mounted display fighter pilots are starting to get where it tracks your head movements and displays relative sensor data based on your head orientation. Look down and to the left, you can see and lock a target. But some how...the future is in the stone age of technology...go figure.

Any way...I suggest that may be...it is not the cockpit that should be removed. Instead the player is given more ways to see the world outside of the cockpit. Now this would only work with the implementation of the player being able to look around...but that appears to be on the developers hit list.

It doesn't matter. If one exists it doesn't mean the others can't. There could (and probably will be) 20+ mods changing the cockpit to various degrees and people can just pick the one they want.
