Turn your in game graphics settings to max expect AA to x4 and vsync=off

Use RP as the op says to fix the clock speeds then
Advanced Tab : Flip Queue Size to 5 (so it renders 5 frames ahead)

For me this helps the stuttering on the R9 290x but risks running a lower average frame rate, but yeah I agree the stutter is a complete show stopper.

Hmm,

does it also work if you modify your power options using the windows thingy?

Thanks! X-R is running much smoother now, with 35-65 FPS in-flight. Was 1st time using RP, and I didn't scroll down far enough to see the Apply Changes button on the bottom of the Overdrive tab. *doh*

I set Flip Queue Size to 5 also.

You were so right.

Even though I left the RP Overdrive Tab "Manual Fan Control" box unchecked, the card was not auto cooling properly. After testing, by running X-R for a few minutes, I checked the MSI Afterburner app and noticed that the auto fan feature was on, but not auto-increasing the fan speed. (stayed at 24%) The GPU was running at 90C during the X-R test.

So I activated MSI Afterburner's User Defined fan speed option and chose "Force fan speed update at each period". The fan speed increased properly and cooled the GPU to 53C. Seems good now, but will keep a close eye on temp.
