For the record, ST/UTs won't increase profits much anyway and have to be replaced and/or fiddled with way too often for my taste, so I never use them either. CLS pilots in ships that aren't speed monsters don't usually crash, they hide when there are hostiles anywhere near them, and never ask for help...and do increase profits about 40%, so they appeal to my greedy nature and my lazy side.StarSword wrote:There's always a tradeoff, in this case income versus convenience. Tim trades the inconvenience of having to replace ships more often for greater profitsss, DiArmada and I prefer slow but reliable money. About the only place I use Mk3 traders is in Sol and Aldrin where there's loads of empty space and I have the broken economy forcing the issue.Timsup2nothin wrote:Giving up 40% of the income to avoid the occasional loss of a freighter.DiArmada wrote:that's why I have no UT's or ST's but totally rely on selfsustained complexes for income

Nah, it's you that have been lucky.cakes wrote:600 hours + in my current AP game with no real use of seta other than occasionally across large distances IS. Probably 20 ST's, no UT's anymore and over 80 CLS/CAG freighters.
No losses yet apart from combat related, even if I'm pottering about IS from time to time.
It's usually bad luck, poor planning or over use of SETA that cause the majority of these type of issues. Often all 3.

Heh, I often build all over the place and have hundreds to thousands of ships flying around. Never have issues with collisions except for special circumstances. Entering the hub sector for example.
Main issues for preventing trader deaths is maintaining good relations with pirates, yaki and all other races. And locking away the xenon.
Doing that and the only trader deaths I've had has been a very few jumping into a sector neighbouring a xenon sector, using the wrong gate at the wrong time.

Now you know why I don't play DIDREB411 wrote:I built an Ore mine gave it two ships one to sell for best price, and one to buy. I left later I went to check on it and found out one of my ship had been destroyed by argon ship yard. What the heck it, was a mistral worth more then the ore mine. I understand being destroyed by Yaki or angry races but ship yards is their a fix to stop automated ships from being destroyed by stations???

Ok, it looked like you were talking about favoring Mk3 traders, not CLS routes. My bad.Timsup2nothin wrote:For the record, ST/UTs won't increase profits much anyway and have to be replaced and/or fiddled with way too often for my taste, so I never use them either. No sweat. I just have to laugh because of the number of times I've been told "we all know you hate Mk3s, give it a rest". Next time I'll be able to say 'StarSword didn't know, neener neener neener'.
