me is using a ms precision pro first version. i have it almost 5 years now and it's still working like the first day. ms hardware seems to last longer than ms software :/. it's got 9 buttons (all usable in x-tension without any extra-software installed) and a throttle. never decalibrates because of it's optical position-measurement (main reason for me to buy this one).

Thanks for the offer
Will be searching the shops this weekend to see who has what in stock, as I need to get a network cable so I can transfer files from my old machine to the new one including patches and save games, plus any other odds and ends that I need.
London will be a bit of a detour all depends on when / where your going to be..

just like to point out that the internet has a much larger and more varied selection than any shop. usually at better prices too.
check out www.fscentral.com in the hardware section for some good stuff.

I agree with you GHarper CH has a great line of products, strong and durable. One thing I see as a minor though is the method of programming they use. I can program the Suncom stick while playing the game. Just put it in PRG mode press the keyboardkey you want assigned to a button while holding that button and done
Whith most CH products you'll have to program the stick using a special program, on the other hand many games have readymade scripts for CH products. The durability is about the same for both CH and Suncom....bummer Suncom is gone though
Cheers.

For Hotas system be ready to put some cash out of your pocket
440$ cdn , 295$ Us. (Why in my country it cost always too much for me)
This one is the best , for now. Test on the joysticks, it was even tested by fighter pilots Canadian. They found it very realistic.
If you can translate french to english. http://micro.info/chronique/chronique.php?Id=1415

GHarper,
You bet 400 euro's is overpriced (like anything else here in the Netherlands). 230 us dollars is a very fair price for the Hotas.
The Euro is about the same in value as the us dollar at the moment so you see it's almost twice the price here. When I ever get to it to buy me a Hotas I'll deffinatly will buy it overseas thrue the internet at amazon etc.
But I still have my Suncom F-15e Talon + throttle and it still works perfectly so no real reason yet to buy me the Hotas, I better spend those 230 dollars in upgrading my pc first to be able to play X2
Still the Cougar Hotas is a nice flightstick though.....
Btw: Since you have the Hotas, do you also play Falcon4 Sp3 ?
Cheers

although at the moment I'm in the middle of I-war2.
as much as I love the TM Cougar, there really isnt a good reason to buy it unless one DOES play falcon or other hardcore flightsims. and maybe mechwarrior.
I was lucky too, I had the forerunner of the Cougar, the TM F22/F16TQS setup. as such I was following the development of the Cougar for 2 or 3 years prior to its release. I was a grad student at the time and I literally got a $300 credit card and set it aside with the intention of using it for nothing except the Cougar HOTAS. LOL. so considering I was budgeting for about 3 years to get the thing, it wasnt a big deal to shell out the money for it. heck it was originally gonna be called the TM HOTAS 2000. well obviously THAT didnt happen!
as for buying advice, I would recommend not waiting too long if one wants to get the Cougar. There word is that TM stopped production tome time ago. It was never meant really to be a mainstream product and they knew going in that they were gonna take a loss if they developed and sold it. (TM can do this cuz they actually arent a souless corporation and loves its customer base and is owned by Guillemont so they can make up for the loss in other areas).. Anyway the long and short of it is that TM is very tight lipped on just how many Cougars were made. on frugalsworld there's a database of Cougar owners and their respective serial numbers cuz we're all trying to figure out when this thing is gonna sell out. Those who followed TM products in the late 90s may recall that after the F22/F16TQS went out of production, it was selling for between $500-$800USD on ebay. regularly. Now its down to a more reasonable $100ish USD (cuz the Cougar now is on the market).
as such there is some fear that this will happen to the Cougar as well amongst us Cougar owners. so people are buying 1 and saving for a second so they have a "spare" and such. I myself bought a Cougar Stick Only on ebay just a week ago for $70 USD. (the Cougar sells as the stick/throttle set, I Dont think it works without the throttle, but since I already got one, spare parts for me!

but yeah, I miss Suncom. Their stuff doesnt have anything ont he Cougar, but still it was a great product. I still got mine plugged into an old pentium1 200mhz I keep around for legacy games. every 8 months or so i grab my sucom F15 and fire up Wing Commander 3 or something and live in the land of nostalgia for awhile.

but heck yeah, I play F4SP3!

still waiting on sp4...only 3-4 weeks from what I hear...

The last I heard about SP4 is that it's going to be released 2nd quarter of this year, so another delay

I can't wait to get my hands on Sp4's new 3d and flightmodels.
btw: if you also play Janes Usaf, check SimHQ usaf board, there are quite some nice new add-ons, some of them made by me even (Av-8b cockpit).
Cheers

actually I got USAF a few months ago cheap on ebay. I get everything on ebay...i love ebay...
but I haven't done much with it yet. I purchased it primarily because I read about the mods at simhq. I flew the default install once and over controlled like crazy.. not sure if its me of if I have the sensitivity all screwed up. any recommendations on the install of the mods? as I understand it there are like two different main mods kinda like back with efalcon and rpgroup...or maybe I'm getting my sims confused...
argh! so many mods!

GHarper.
I'm mainly using the admin8.4 mod but right now I'm building my own mod where you can fly most of the newest planes in the quick mission editor. Adding a new plane is quite some work but I got the hang of it now.
I allready intalled the F-14, F-18, Av-8b and a cool new F-16CJ with new fueltanks etc. You can get all that stuff at McFly's website :
http://bobsyouruncle.net/mcflyhome.htm
There you can get Admin8.4 (somewhere around 17mb)
And Superpro 9 (over 1GB)
Superpro 9.2 will be released pretty soon as an update with even more new aircraft like the Gripen, Viggen, Corsair, new Tornado etc.
Although Usaf is not such a hardcore sim as Falcon, it gives you a huge load of different planes to fly with. You should see the recently released SR-71 (drool).
If you don't know how to install the add-ons just send me a pm with your e-mail adress I got lots of stuff organized allready
Cheers
