Havent that been confirmed ?

Have a vague memory about a thread with people saying, you would have ship interior etc and be able to be onboard a cruiser/carrier under combat.

Id really like to see an X game with real momentum like if you float, you float. And to brake boost opposite. Would be VERY NOT INTUITIVE to players but would really give it a touch of SPACE. Maybe there would be an automatic device assisting you to stand still.

I want to see these kind of things in the game:
It will be very interesting, if into the space (in to the zones) will be some kind of special objects, like - animated plasma effects, asteroids twister (moving asteroids fields), asteroids with tunnels and caves, small nebula (like it was in the X2), ancient alien ruins, debris, ...
Here is example video trailer, I was created few kind of these special objects (without special abilities, of course) into the my mod for X2.
Also will be much more interesting, if special objects (small nebula, plasma effects, ...) have special abilities, like - eating ships shield, hull, disable radar, weapons, slow down ships speed and other interesting abilities.
Then you will need to be careful to avoid these dangerous special object territories.
Player can use these dangerous special object territories in the battle, to escape or hide player ship from the enemies or even ensnare an enemy in the trap.

I could miss some of already confirmed, but here is my list.
1. Reworked boarding. When I wasn't able to send my troops in proper way even when I had carrier it was frustrating. I know about special type of ships but they are terrible for personal use. Also sending one experienced stormtrooper should not be more rational than sending 50 of them. More troopers -> less casualties.

2. Crew on ships and workers on factories. Feel that all your financial and military consist from empty shells is creepy.

3. No forced friends during story [I'm playing Starpoint right now and it looks damn blatant] and some plot-related choices in general.

4. And no missions where I need tons of microchips [which is enough to build little moon] please.

First thing I want, beeing able to board ship like in TCand AP, but an improved version with cinematics or something more entertaining than looking at a screen with the status of the marines.

Second thing but the most important, have a way to pilot every ship we want by modding because the only one flyable ship thing is annoying !

Third thing I want, allow to mod the characters models, I want to see cylons or stormtroopers in my ships/stations ! Or just to change the models if they are ugly for me.

I want to see:
-More variety in ship desings from different races...
-Some upgraded ships designs based on some of the actual X3 ships (maybe some borrowed from XRM and XTM?) for the nostalgic player like me.
-More number of ships of the same type (if you are still using those types like M1, M2..) y wanted to see like 3 or 4 different destroyers (for example) of each race, some defensive based (heavy armor and shields) others attack based (high weapon energy and maneuvrability in comparisson) other ultra mega terran-space-station-like mothership (just one for race)
-If you're going to use missiles AGAIN, then please give us countermeasures (ECM, chaff, whatever...) we cannot rely on turrets.
-If you're not going to implement countermeasures then allow us to build turrets like it's a ship's hair (a lot).
-Equipment rewards, not just money (difficulty is a factor of course, don't want to get useless equipment as rewards so put them on difficult missions only).
-Give a modders some tools to make piloting more than 1 ship possible (as many others i don't like the idea of hiding in a ship to make battle with toys).
-BEAM weapons that are not over powered and can follow targets with the turret AI.
- Some kind of Afterburner or Turbo boost or Warp or anything that makes long distances shorter for a bit (will work better when we have bigger ships to control)

Of course everything that is related to ships would be kind of useless if we cannot control them... so please give the modders the tools to make that possible if you don't want.

I'd be happy with beam and area weapons that don't lag. Those things are vicious on CPU time!

Fortunately, this type of thing is easily dumped off thread. Weapons basically fly free and don't have to interact with the game world until they hit something. In CUDA, every bullet would likely be its own thread (CUDA loves thousands of tiny things).

Independence War 2 did this FANTASTICALLY. To this day, one of the most accurate AND fun space combat simulators I've ever played. And it actually still looks pretty good! The universe size and travel was also VERY realistic without being too tedious or time consuming. Egosoft could really benefit from adopting some elements of this model. The highway model is Freelancer-esque and is a very nice alternative option. I spent a loonnnng time playing that game. One of the things I loved the most about it is how alive the universe felt. Even when you went off the trade lanes into the unexplored reaches, you would stumble across miners and hidden pirate bases and such.

If there's one thing I REALLY would like to see in X is more random chatter among other ships in the universe. In Freelancer, ships would give away all sorts of random information in chatting with each other and also when you commed them. They'd tell you what was good to mine in that sector, they'd tell you their trade route (what they were hauling and where they came from and their destination). They'd warn you about pirates and complain about how hard they were working. That really helped the universe to feel alive. I think that kind of NPC interaction is lacking until now, and it seems like Rebirth is trying to fix that. This would be a great way.

Yes! I've found that X is incredibly boring to explore, with most sectors being a cube filled with generic stations and N|S|E|W jumpgates, and every faction only differing in the type of food they ate and their terrible grasp of English. Freelancer did it well by having both the clearly marked "beaten-path" of the tradelanes, and then a few interesting looking clouds on the borders that contained all sorts of interesting things. And then these outer areas would have jumpholes to more interesting places, which would lead to more exploration, so on and so forth. I loved finding things like the Corsair/Hessian battlefield system, or the Neutron star system, or the Unknown jumpholes filled with aliens. Space is the final frontier....make it worth our while to go out and explore it.

I'd really wanna see some parts of space that are out of the way, but rewarding to explore. Like a nebula cloud which damages your ship but contains a few good nividium asteroids that the player has to pull out via tractor beam to mine. Or an area filled thick with asteroids that a cap ship can't enter, but is navigable by smaller ships and has wrecks for salvage. Or a hidden pirate base. Or something like the Shikoku Burn radiation gap in FL.

And some backstory to the wrecks/abandoned ships would be cool. I loved it in Freelancer when you found a wreck and it had a log on its name and how it possibly got there. Maybe audio SOS logs when you got close and try to comm it (like the Fallout 3 radio beacons).

Also some noticable differences between the race sectors would be cool. Like going into Argon core space to see a fairly open system, then into a Paranid border system with heaps of guardships and propaganda around the entrance, to a Terran system with huge lasertowers paranoidly following your ship and security forces barking orders at your ship lest you be blasted away. Less sectors, with more detail and variety.

To fully obsure planets or moons in foggy areas where you cannot see the lights of a space station unless your nose to nose with them.

Like Elite 2, I would love to be able to land and mine planets - though I think this is really unlikely.

Fuel for ships

Post by vezex »

Fuel for ships.

I would quite like for there to be a form of ship fuel.
So far in the X games the ships have seemed to run on nothing. Of course you might provide a back story to this by saying that they run on solar power or something, but in actual fact they do run on nothing.

I don't wish to make the game extremely complicated, but i would like to see several types of fuel for ships. A cheap fuel that gets the job done but doesn't last quite as long, then maybe a better fuel that runs the ships for ages but costs a fair bit more.
There could also be a solar power ship installment that would cost a fair bit and either neutralise the need for fuel, or greatly decrease the need for fuel.

I imagine this suggestion will be fairly unpopular with a lot of people, but it's just my two cents :p

Don't really see what fuel would add to the game other than making wingmen thrice as tedious as they already are.

I think a safer bet is simply that the fuel is not kept in the same place as the missiles are, no?

The way i see it, the combat of X: Rebirth is going to be far different from that of the previous X games, especially since you are only ever in one ship, so i don't see why it would be such a negative feature to have. I simply think that the developers are striving to make X:Rebirth as realistic as they possibly can, and to add more realism would mean creating a form of ship fuel, and if not then they could at least provide a back story as to why they seemingly don't need fuel.

Maybe some of the ships fuel tanks could be located in dangerous places. Egosoft have already said that the ships will have various things on them that are able to be targeted. For example you can target shield systems and defense turrets to make battles more strategic.
I think that adding fuel tanks into the equation would simply expand on this feature and make the battles even more exciting.

Choosing a ship model at the beginning of the game.

I would also like to see the possiblity of choosing what kind of ship you have.
I realise that we will be limited to one single ship throughout the game, but it would be nice to pick from a selection of models at the beginning of the game. Even if it were something as little as 5 models, it would still be something.

I would also like to see the possibility of an expansion somewhere down the line that may not have a plot which is key to the x universe, but will allow us to fly many ships. Something like the X Tension mod for X:BTF.

I'm still getting my head round being limited to one ship like the days of X:BTF. I can understand why it's being done, but i think that choosing from a set of ship models at the beginning of the game would make it much more personal and give the game more freedom, which i think is one of the reasons the X games have been so great throughout the years.

You can own multiple ships (ie wingmen), you just can't fly them.

Temporary setback as far as I'm concerned. Don't take this the wrong way as I love X, but I'm sure as the nth review will point out, 1 ship limit is not the way of Elite and hence a black mark against it's name. It won't last.

The reason we never need fuel is: in the year 3500 or so, everything's nuclear, so fusion reactors don't use much compared to gasoline or jet fuel we use today, also. It might be possible that when you buy ships, they have an id number that identifies the fuel type needed and it gets automatically added without a word each time you dock, or at least the fuel level gets checked. To use up the entire fuel tank you might need to fly across the X universe three times side to side, or hunt pirates for a year solid.

Open fuel tanks that can be targeted would be a huge engineering mistake. They are after all, very dangerous and volatile, so the engineers would hide them behind walls of protection, a one shot kill into a small fusion reactor might be spectacular to see but hardly what the owner would like.

And what I'd like to see in X3R? It cant be done, more realism makes people angry since they have to slow down or script everything in to 'win' in the first few days or a week, and flying different ship until I found one I really like is the reason I play the X series, we'll see how that works out now.

My favorite question was: if we are remotely flying a ship somewhere else, who's protecting the one we're in? After all even an autopilot cant protect you from an attack when you 'not home' and I highly doubt that you'll remotely fly ships sectors away, so your ship will probably be in the same sector that your fighting in, and the fact that it absolutely HAS to be an immortal ship, since you only get one, makes it seem boring to me.
