multimonitor support of the ATI "show as one massive monitor" system is nice* but I'd really like to be able to display auxiliary information on one or both of my secondary monitors like, say, World in Conflict, or Supreme Commander (though that doesn't make especially good use of it)
*not really. I think it's horrid. There's no easy way to swap from my desktop "3 separate monitors so things maximise properly and I don't have my start menu aaaaall the way to the left" system to the "one stretched virtual monitor" and back again, and I don't personally think there's much benefit

Download and install Matrox PowerDesk, ATI HydraVision or a similar program will allow you to maximize to one monitor, one display area, or the whole desktop.frymaster wrote:*not really. Failing that since your mentioned ATI, there is the option in CCC to save monitor configurations as presets, then assign the presets to hotkeys to change them on the fly. Meaning you can swap between 3 display areas or one large display area with a key press.

There is a way with Microsoft FSX to use multiple monitors for multiple views. For instance you can put the copilot view to a secondary monitor or even to your old crt TV. All view is flexible there and you can place as many vindow as your VGA can handle.
Unfortunatelly this isnt very well supported with windows 7. Another thing where XP done better job....

I use a Dell 30" (2560*1600) It's the best upgrade I've ever made to my system and considering it can last through several base-system upgrades I feel it was money well spent.ps2cho wrote:^This!!thyco wrote:If this game does end up supporting multiple monitors, and a goes as far to let us do what Skid suggests, ill definately be buying 2 extra monitors just for this game.
The game would be INCREDIBLE with multple monitors.
What size would you guys recommend? (excluding multi).
I currently have a 19" and its difficult to enjoy X:TC because its so beautiful and with a small LCD it doesn't do the game justice.
I'm thinking 24"-27"?
You don't need a mad system to drive it these days. My nephews new 600 pound system can run it pretty well at full resolution.
On the XR monitor support. IF they bring back the X2 style multi monitor support with separate windows showing different data instead of just a streched cockpit FOV I'll be clearing some more desk space just for this game.
The Dell is big enough for the main view, but having maps and empire data on separate screens would be great and I have a couple of spare 19" screens not being used much these days.
Dave.

Is not even Led

I think with Oled Becomes popular and cheap , properly in next 10 years then you may see a proper curved Monitor. With Oled is like wafer thin and you can bend it to make a curve.

How amazing this that !

That's the real kicker. I've had a few games that were willing to stretch between monitors. What it gave me was a black line to stare at. Meh.
The only thing worth mentioning in Supreme Commander 2 was the second monitor support. That was very nice.
If they did return to additional monitor support, having a data screen or (be still my beating heart) draggable menus that you could position on the second monitor from the first.. now that would be nice.

I think most graphics cards these days are able to treat multiple monitors as a single desktop, so all the game needs to have is:
a) A windowed mode.
b) Draggable interface elements (windows, HUD, etc.) or at least the ability to alter all aspects of the the UI with mods.
In other words, it doesn't need specific support for multiple monitors. As long as it supports a windowed mode, it should be possible (on most graphics cards) to stretch the window so that it covers both screens.
It might not be as elegant as native multi-monitor support, but it should make 99% of people happy.

I know this is an old thread but wanted to copy what was said...hannihanagarth wrote:That's so sad. Another good opportunity wasted...
(To be fair : I have no clue how hard it is to perform that.)
Aldath: CharlieChop asks, Will Rebirth allow us to use several screens? For example, will the player be able to use one screen to see the status of any assets you own, or a larger version of the sector map while still being able to play with an unobstructed view.
BL: No, this is not planned for X: Rebirth at this point. The game that went furthest in this regard was X2: The Threat where you could indeed arrange up to 6 screens on up to three physical monitors.
He stated that 'Not planned at this point' leaving it open for the possibility of having that at a later point. So don't rule out the map on the left, turrets on the right, and main view ready to roll just yet!
It's not if we win or lose that matters, it's that we stood and faced it.
