Aha, I've been wondering about the need for patches,
held off saying anything till now but:
X-Tension (2010) gives a crash on all my old load games e.g. X4.sav
http://www.exogenesis.co.uk/X4.zip
Saved game was XTension ver 2.1.6.7 (copyright date 2000),
maybe this is was is meant by 'must be patched'
i.e. any save games are from the latest patched game (the above isn't ?)
XBTF seems runs fine, but get crappy text with the help screen
(other text e.g. pilot stats looks OK) :
http://www.exogenesis.co.uk/XBtf2010_20 ... -25-68.png
(but then, it might always have looked like that ?)
Other than that it all looks as I remember it
DOS systeminfo:
http://www.exogenesis.co.uk/dosSysInfo_ ... _07_10.txt
DXDiag:
http://www.exogenesis.co.uk/DxDiag_exog ... _07_10.txt

Odd, does not look like that for me.exogenesis wrote:XBTF seems runs fine, but get crappy text with the help screen

Seen that before when a screen size is too small causing text become truncated in spots.

Update: tried the EXE files, they both work! New EXE fixed the strange video problem on X-Tension. Presumably it'll all work as if it was patched properly, as the only files that failed on the patching were the actual EXE files, I think.
I'll let you know how the Win7 netbook copes with it all when I get it. Thanks all!

It looks like the game resolution may be different from the native screen resolution. And on LCD's, that can produce such bad text.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

The screen shot from XBTF above with bad text was from a CRT screen,
running the game at 1152x864, the .png is 640x480 (FRAPS),
but that's pretty much how it looks at full rez as well.
All other text looks fine.
Suppose I should dig out the XTension disc to see if the old save-games
load without crashing with the original XTension exe.
(btw tried the 2010 version it in all compatibility modes, none loaded the old save-game files).

I've not played it before so this might just be me being a noob, but I had green landing lights but it didn't open the doors so I exploded. This was after a few good landings too. All that Elite training!
Also, because I started again, I noticed some of the Teladi speech files were missing. It went straight from the "you are about to explode" but to mr asking him why I owe him credits, without doing the bit where he says he's going to fix the ship n

This is interesting:nicknick wrote:Attention, extention executive file has been manipulated, self-destruct sequence activated.
The End. 2:35h into the game.
1) what version of the game were you using before?
2) Is this reproducible (e.g by saving shortly before)?
3) Can you please copy the EXE into the folder with a different filename and start the game by clicking on this new EXE, to make 100% sure you are starting the new EXE and not the old one?
Could you please send your answer via email to info@egosoft.com too?
Thanks for your help.

Executables for X: BtF and X-T updated. Copy protection issues fixed along with minor tweaks. Anyone who was suffering issues before, should test again.
These versions are now known as 2.2. I've tested X-T quite a bit. The Xenon_Slayer is back in his old stomping grounds of Black Hole Sun

Hey guys,
I just tried the new EXE's and wanted to let you know that my problems with the prevoius X-Tension exe is no more. I can change sectors just fine now. So, what ever you did fixed the issue that I had previously reported. Nothing has changed on my system so I didn't see any need in attaching a DXDiag report as it would be the same as is in my post on the first page of this topic.
I was in X-Tension for better than 6 hours not one single glitch did I find. I'll give X-BTF a long run tomorrow, but since I didn't have any issues there before I don't expect there will be any now. Except for the throttle on my Logitech Extreme3D Pro which I believe is a DirectX and Win XP issue. My reason for believing that is that was an issue I noticed a long, long time ago. Though it seems to be limited to certain joysticks as the throttle works fine on my Siatek ST290 Pro joystick (again, that stick is a truly plug-n-play joystick, no software required or even shipped with it). So the issue seems limited to joysticks that have/require a software package. My logitech will work without the software installed, but even then the issue exists (hence my belief that it is not a game issue).
If you would like me to repost my DXDiag report, just let me know and I'll edit this post to add it.
Edit: I guess I should mention, I was playing one of my old saves in X-Tension (which I was having trouble with before, the same one I sent to enenra via email) which should confirm that my previous issues have been cleared up. Also, I did fire up the new X-BTF exe was in there for about an hour, another reason I don't believe I will find ant issues with it. Because in that hour I tried doing just about anything and everything to push it to the point it might break. It didn't!
Edit2: Spent several hours in X-BTF today not one glitch. Was in an old save for about 3 hours. Then spent another 3 1/2 hours in a new game.
I know, 3 1/2 hours on a new game in X-BTF is really nothing as you are really just starting to get going. But still, I didn't get any weird messages lock ups, crashes etc. Maybe tomorrow I can spend a few more hours with it. Anyway they seem pretty rock solid at this time.

Yet another case of the marketing weenies at the publisher releasing info before the developer is ready. Of course, if it doesn't get released on that date, the publisher can always blame the vendors for giving eroneous information. Sounds about right.
