Because of all the hype, I got myself a Hyperion couple days ago. Well... I'm going back to Springblossom. It is a good ship and better than Springblossom in many areas but inferior in the most important area. Armament and speed. Lack of flak type weapon makes fighting large number of fighters time consuming. Yes SSC uses more energy per shot but it kills fighters in one shot with no wasted energy whereas Hyperion sprays and wastes so much energy with its turrets. 0% energy after killing one P or PX and a few M. Also the M/A launcher is superior to any weapon Hyperion can mount because you don't have to worry about energy. M/A Launcher in the front and SSC in the turrets mean quicker battle and continuous battle. Hyperion has the most laser energy? Of course... because it needs it.
Yes, you can say it is second fastest (it's actually 3rd) but less than half the speed.

Don't see what having more shield have to do with "tactical superiority". Absorbing more damage doesn't seem tactical. Less weapon energy? Of course as its main arsenal is ammo based. And it's "less than" Hyperion but still has one of the highest energy. Less weapon compatibility but has the "right" weapon compatibility. If I had all the M6 weapons to choose from, MAM and SSC are what I would choose. As far as ship to ship, M6 vs M6. The Springblossom doesnt carry anymore weapons or have any tactical superiority to any other M6 other than its speed.
It has less shielding than most M6s, less weapon energy, and also has less weapon compatibility.

The math is rather simple. If your M6 is faster than that cloud of Xenon fighters around you then you may survive ...if not, you go byebye, you can't dodge their fire.
That's why an M6 can bring you only so far - except for the Springblossom wich outrunns most fighters while still able to kill an enemy M6 in a full speed driveby.
Once you get zerged during your missions you should take that hideous M6 into consideration ...or you buy a destroyer, that's what i do.

My First centaur
So I listened to what all of you wrote. I bought a Centaur. Any advice how to load it out and where I can find the mods.
m currently using 6 M concussion impulse generators and 10 fighters. Surely there is a better fit out? I am looking for an all purpose setup that can capture ships, deal with fighters, and even deal with some of the bigger ships. An all aorund solid fit. Any advice is welcome you guys have been great so far!!!!

...or you take the 100Mil you saved for a destroyer and get 80 'L'-stock M4s and show the Kha'ak what a swarm is all about...spend the rest of drones and you can give them a taste of their own medicine...it works better than you think...and, yes, you lose plenty of ships in the hilarity.Ghalador wrote:...or you buy a destroyer...

I think I might stick with a ships thats more economical in terms of replacemnt costs...RandomBandit wrote:...or you take the 100Mil you saved for a destroyer and get 80 'L'-stock M4s and show the Kha'ak what a swarm is all about...spend the rest of drones and you can give them a taste of their own medicine...it works better than you think...and, yes, you lose plenty of ships in the hilarity.Ghalador wrote:...or you buy a destroyer...

You didn't notice that a Hyperion can use EBCs, then? They're also ammo-based, and while they're a lot more hungry for ammo than M/AM launchers are, you have all that extra cargo space for ammo crates in a Hyperion!Venutian wrote:Also the M/A launcher is superior to any weapon Hyperion can mount because you don't have to worry about energy.

No I just didn't think EBC's are in the same league as MAM launchers and wasn't worth mentioning.pjknibbs wrote:You didn't notice that a Hyperion can use EBCs, then? They aren't. You get way more bangfortehbucks from of the M/AM launcher. However, they make a great anti-small-craft addition to the CIG and those are in a ligue with the M/AML.Venutian wrote:No I just didn't think EBC's are in the same league as MAM launchers and wasn't worth mentioning.pjknibbs wrote:You didn't notice that a Hyperion can use EBCs, then? I remember that i had to reload the Springblossom twice during a (multible) early X3TC patrol mission. It's nice to have such consistent firepower, but one should also remember: If you're out, you're out for good. No recharge rate on ammo.

Spent days searching for it and took 5 attempts to cap the Hyperion, lost one 5 star marine so I'm really trying hard to convince myself. But noticed another handicap. It can only mount IRE, PAC, or FBL in the back turrets? This pretty much makes the rear turrets useless.pjknibbs wrote:In terms of damage per second they're not far off. Yes, M/AML do more damage per shot, but over time you're about the same.
And as for M/AM and EBC, I meant they aren't in the same league in practice. As mentioned, EBC consumes ammo faster, hull damage is a joke as a corvette class weapon and with extra 1km range of M/AM, I can often kill the enemy before they start maneuvering. EBC are for fending off fighters in the turrets and not suited as main gun on a corvette. CIG and ISR would be comparable to M/AM in range and damage but both drain energy like there's no tomorrow. Perhaps CIG in the front and EBC in the turrets may be a solution but alas... can't mount EBC in the rear. They aren't. You get way more bangfortehbucks from of the M/AM launcher. As I've said in my first post, M/AM Launcher is "superior" to anything Hyperion can mount. These "wrong" choice of armament is the biggest weakness of Hyperion.

Each rear turret carries three guns, and I assure you that potentially six PACs all firing at a target behind you is not useless in any way, shape or form--you're talking stripping 75MJ of shielding in about 2 seconds, and the fast speed of shot means PACs don't miss often.Venutian wrote:It can only mount IRE, PAC, or FBL in the back turrets? As for damage, 4xHEPT on front turrets + 8xEBC will chew through things pretty darned fast, believe me. Hull damage isn't generally a factor unless you're attacking big ships like M7s and above anyway...

But attacking big ships like Q is what I do with my Springblossompjknibbs wrote:Each rear turret carries three guns, and I assure you that potentially six PACs all firing at a target behind you is not useless in any way, shape or form--you're talking stripping 75MJ of shielding in about 2 seconds, and the fast speed of shot means PACs don't miss often.

And I did try 4 HEPT and 8 EBC. Again, it's not a bad loadout but 8 M/AM does better job. I think people need to understand the extra 1km range adds to the damage.

I thought I would never engage again in a Springy vs. Hype discussion, but couldn't resist.
In a pure gunpower comparison the Springblossom is for sure superior to the Hyperion, but the Hyperion wins as a better ship if you consider its versatility:
- Can dock two fighters (which opens many possibilities)
- Can fire almost any kind of missiles (except M7M specials)
You see, a Hyperion loaded with Typhoons and Wraiths is one of the most powerful machines in the game.

Those are indeed strong point of Hyperion but whether it's deciding factor depends on whether you value gun firepower or versatility. And I personally put more weight on firepower. Missiles... well, I fly almost twice the speed of Typhoon or Wraith in Springy. I get to the enemy and kill them before the missiles so there's really no need. Advantage of Springblossom that I value is its ability to get to the trouble spot quickly, deal with excellent firepower, and disengage at will when necessary.vbruzual wrote:In a pure gunpower comparison the Springblossom is for sure superior to the Hyperion, but the Hyperion wins as a better ship if you consider its versatility:

And been ignoring speed... and if I never flown springblossom, I might not complain but flying Hyperion after being used to Springy is like going back to Pentium 2.

Hmm... I'm only Battlemaster and Mogul but never ran into 5 Xenon K's all at once in my game even in Xenon core sector. Just one K and one J spawns at a time. Does this happen at higher fight rank? And this only applies to me and others who uses MARS but MARS greatly reduces the effectiveness of missiles. Enemy AI becomes really good at shooting them down. Not something I can consider.vbruzual wrote:Give me a Hyperion loaded with typhoons and wraith and I can kill 5 Xenon Ks with escorts in the time you kill just one.
