Maximum memory detected by Win XP 32 bit is 3.5 Gb or so,
We don't talk about maximum memory used but per process memory limit which happens to be 2GB in Windows (and with XP Server and a special API, 3GB). Maximum memory and per process memory are different.
and unless there will be a 64 bit version of X3TC it won't get past this number. So I don't see how having a 64 bit OS would be better for anyone...
at least as far as X3TC goes. The fact that the game can't use more than 2 Gb memory has nothing to do with OS.
It does. The 2GB limit is a OS kernel imposed one. On Win64 it's possible for X3TC to use up to 3-3.5GB which is quite an improvement over Win32's 2GB.

No noticable performance boost, but I encountered my 1st CTD 5 mins into 2.0a! :( That's after 15 hrs of crash-free 1.4 :(

My pc specs are astonishingly bad. Single core seriously o/c'd sempron 2.12 ghz with 1.5 gigs ram.

I didn't think to do this because fraps reduces performance slightly (and the update had no performance fixes that were relevent to me) but maybe a before and after fps count may have been in order.

I could swear there is a difference however! non crowded sectors are glassy smooth and ridiculously crowded sectors are... not as jerky. I can run around my flail fab, no probs.

All this is subjective. All I can say about my bias is I was not expecting an improvement so it might not be in my head.

Maybe the upgrade was best for lower performance machines.
Split now give me death? Nah. Just give me your ship.

Am I the only person who's noticed a performance decrease? I flew round for a moment with fraps before applying the patch, and again from the same save after, and i swear there's been a drop of about 5 fps! :( I am not so happy :(

Ive got 3gb ram and i did have that use >2gb ram flag set via CFF, so perhaps i shouldnt expect any improvement. But i sure didnt expect it to be worse!

In general my FPS is very good, even in very busy sectors.
But I do still get random 1-3 second pauses/lags occassionally. Mostly in combat.
All will be fine then blip! 1 sec freeze.... everything is OK for 30 sec then blip! 2 sec freeze.
I think its loading audio files off the HD or something.

So, I've patched to 2.0a and, apart from occasional lag when entering a sector I can't really see any difference in performance. Task manager shows no difference in pagefile usage when in game so I'm guessing FPS boost really is a future matter.

Crap performance when just lookin about. :(

Might go back to x3 r cos it had better autopilot iirc and better performance when just lookin about.

Patch 2.0

Post by omnix32 »

As stated.

Quad 9550
Vista 64
9800 GTX+

2.0 has given great improvement to certain sectors that would freeze me out, having to CTRL+ALT+DELETE my way out.

I have also noticed improvement on the constant stuttering, now everything is smooth with no constant stuttering, and tons of ships in combat no longer effect frame rates.

2.0 allows me to play X3 TC with full graphic settings like I can with UT3, Red Alert 3, Fallout 3, ETC....

A big improvement and I am impressed.

In my case, graphic settings have no impact on game speed. I have all the goodies like AA, AF and post processing crancked up with little or no difference in regards to game speed when all the niceties are way down low.

For what its worth, those having performance difficulties with TC might want to try TC -> X3 Reunion performance callback mod. No guarantees, but at least in my case, this mod roughly doubles FPS (from 16 to 30+) with TC 2.0.

As for ppl waiting for a performance boost in 2.1... remember that mages dont exist.

Addicionaly, the "new .exe" posted on the L3 forum actually caused the white light problem that was present in the 2.0 release version.

The main problem is CPU load, and i dont think the games uses the 4 cores of a quad either.

One of the main problem i see is the performance drop when some types od weapons land a hit, like PBEs, PALCs, Kyons, PACs, etc... the damage formula cant be THAT complex to cause that severe slowdown.

The way to go is parallel processing... i hope they look forward in doing something like this, with DX11 and OpenCL it may be viable. is time to put those GPU to work... going from low to max detail has minimal impact in the performance, its either the game too well optimised or there is a giant CPU bottleneck :P

As I mentioned last page, there was a performance fix in the works in the beta forum, but it wasn't able to be ready in time for the 2.0 release. ES have said it shouldl be in 2.1. You're right - there is no magic bullet for performance, but this is a fix for people who have been experiencing severe slowdown.

Yes, that's the reason it didn't make it into 2.0. What exactly is your point? The initial 2.0 patch (not release) had an issue which caused that 'white light' problem, which may not even have any connection with the issue in the beta executable.

You were one of the early patch adopters, I'm guessing? You need to download the 2.0->2.0a hotfix, and that should solve it.

I've found that it does increase Fps. Not a lot, but it is a lot smoother now.
Also when I started the game, usually the audio would loop for about 10 seconds while the game froze. After that it would play fine, but after 2.0, this no longer happens! :)
'Er, excuse me,' said Ford, following after him, 'which government owns this Brigantine?'
Marvin ignored him.
'Which government...' started Ford Prefect again.
'No government owns it,' snapped the robot, 'it's been stolen.'
'Stolen?'
'Stolen?' mimicked Marvin.
'By who?' asked Ford.
'Squiddy McSquid.'

I took one mission and flew 3 gates, on the third gate, it crashed. First X3 crash ever.

It "seems" to run smoother.

I now use every option while before I played with mediocre textures, only 4x AA etc.

Not flown round my complexes yet.

So very happy allready. Bring on 2.1
