Almost missed this topic as it was way down the page. Definitely a good cause. Why dont we try and compile a list of email addresses for Uk (and elsewhere) magazines so people can easily email and register interest with them??

Tagos c'est moi. Saw you there. That FL board is a textbook example of how not to welcome new potential players. close threads on a whim or if they discuss something the regulars settled to their own satisfaction 8 months before you were even aware the board existed. Never ever ever concede that something might be less than optimum with the apple of your eye, despite the long history of thrown out features.

And stupid? Is the difference between wanting a 3d cockpit that can be looked out in different directions and a first person straight ahead view that difficult to understand?

Had the very same reaction on the Haegy forum, i answered a post eg 'Can anyone recommend a good space sim' it was tailor made for me so i posted a reply 'Head over to www.egosoft.com for a new space game due out in a few months' (the guy was from the US) as you know the game has a profile problem over there, namely no one has ever heard of it  back to the Haegy forum, so the next reply was 100% hostile the guy(different poster) told me not to come on to the forum and post about ORB.. WTF ? i didn't even bother to reply 8) the next time i clicked on the site the guy was made a :!: :!: moderator :!: :!: it gets worse, he then, with his new found 'Moderator status' went to the ORB forums and procedeed to bash the ORB game which inevitably led to a host of flame wars between both forums .. talk about chaos  i actually posted a link to the thread on this forum for the moderators to have a look 8) yes i read the thread about cockpits, being able to look l/r up etc no radar and so on these were the things that i wanted in the game as well so i was equally dissapointed  they even moved a humerous poetry thread which was really a discussion albeit in rhyme about whether joystick control or mouse control was better.. i suspect like you say the fans want these questions to go away but they wont go away 8)

space sim fans when they heard about the announcement of FL (plus involvement of Chris Roberts,i think that was his name) from the wing comm games assumed it was a 21st century elite in the making, and why not cause i remember the early blurb years ago saying all the things like J/stick support, freeform, openended etc are not the case anymore

Perhaps thats the reason CR left the dev team, to be honest space sim players have had a raw deal over the last couple of years not having anything to play and expecting FL to deliver 8) All the more fans for The Threat

The reason PC Gamer are being tits comes down to their initial review of X-BTF.
Who did that? Kieron 'no patience' Gillen

He slated X just on the grounds that it 'took too long' awwww poor diddums.

IMO the guy is a tit, you can't slate a game for that reason alone, if it took too long for no reward then maybe, but with all the wealth of fun X supplied with just a little investment it's a criminal offence.

As a result they didn't look beyond the surface. Which is their loss as far as I'm concerned. But I see your point, come people, lets storm PC Gamers offices and demand X2 info, and Kierons head while we are their!
Knock knock. Who's there? Zerg Rushhhhhhhhhhhh!

Freelancer Vs X2.

Post by aspeckman »

That was me on lancersreactor that posted that X2 Vs Freelancer. They shut me down really quick, saying that the topic was already covered. Not too nice.
I am an XTension player, played all through X-BTF too. I found XTension and ordered it from Germany. I live in Utah, US. I feel pretty luck to have a copy of XTension, simply because it is so rare.
I bought a 2nd copy of X-BTF as backup.
I play Battlecruiser Millenium also. I have heard many fables of Freelancer over the years, many screenshots. Now that the hour is near, I am curious to see what people are saying about it.
I don't want to muddy the water, but I have heard from some beta testers that it wasn't all they expected. The single player plays more like I-War2.
However, the multiplayer is good, because you can start your own free-form game there.
I have decided to stick with the X Universe and Battlecruiser Millenium series because simply, I know how everything works, especially in XTension.
I like how you can own factories, build an economy, fight the pirates and xenon, etc. The open-ended aspect is why I play XTension. The graphics are excellent, and the music is wonderfull. The music is why I started playing X-BTF in October of 2000. It was a great stress-releiver for me back then, when I took a vacation, I stayed home, worked out, massage, tan, and played X-BTF.
Graphics were good, and I felt challenged in X-BTF to finish the game.
I don't think the stress relief this game offers is talked about that much. I like a peacefull universe, and pick fights when I want too.
That brings me to Battlecruiser, I like to goto planets, land on them, jump out and walk around a base. It is an amazing game. Graphics and music are ok too, but I play it for different reasons. I like commanding a large battlecruiser, have fleet-command and control, order other battlecruisers to attack, etc. There is so much to do.
So, given all that, I just don't feel like Freelancer offers me enough to jump over to them.

XOnline will be out eventually, hopefully. I just wish the developers would find ways to promote the game more. That would bring more money in I think, making XOL a reality.
Battlecruiser will have some sort of multiplayer soon, not sure what it is going to be though.

Good one! If this is a UK publication give Steel the address, he can follow it up.
If it is an US one, I can answer them if you forward the email.

Cheers
