You can put more Ram and your 32bit OS will use it.

If you modified your X3 exe to use more then 2 gig then you get a bit less stutter and pauses.

So, have we tried this, yet? What does the System Properties dialog box have to say about the total amount of available RAM? Screenshots, anyone?

Pretty sure PAE won't work on Windows XP--server operating systems only back then. I'm surprised it works in Vista, to be honest with you.

I've had PAE working with x86 XP, although it may have required a service pack or two to do so. It even added the switch itself without me having to do anything.

Well, according to this article, you can enable PAE on Windows XP but it still won't allow you to access more than 4Gb of physical RAM:

Tried the pae switch on xp sp2 32 bit with 16 GB of ram and no joy, still the same old 3.25 GB.

according to that MS Tech Doc - it seems I've had mine enabled anyway..

"The PAE kernel can be enabled automatically without the /PAE switch present in the boot entry
if the system has DEP enabled (/NOEXECUTE switch is present) or the system processor supports
hardware-enforced DEP. Presence of the /NOEXECUTE switch on a system with a processor that supports
hardware-enforced DEP implies the /PAE switch. If the system processor is capable of hardware-enforced DEP
and the /NOEXECUTE switch is not present in the boot entry, Windows assumes /NOEXECUTE=optin by default and enables PAE mode."

- I added the NOEXECUTE=OPTIN to the Boot.ini when I found my XPHome 32-bit system wanting
to continue to boot into the Windows7 BETA OS, even after I had removed it and it's partition..

..the game has been running very smoothly in XPHome with just 2G of RAM - which is spooky.. :o
- the whole universe is running in BETA mode - we're working on it.. beep..!! :D
