Memtest is carp for testing for memory errors unless the error is absolutely bleeding obvious. Try Prime95 (the 64bit version - http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205) in stress testing mode. Usually picks up problems with RAM in a couple of minutes (If you have any problems that is) - you might want to run it for a few hours.

Random crashes do sound like driver conflicts or a dodgy piece of RAM.

The reason you may not have had a problem in other games is that X3 uses a LOT of RAM and most games don't use as much as it does, so it may be reaching and using a part of the RAM that rarely gets touched by anything else.

An 8800GT requires a PSU of 450watts or greater.

Thanks, got the Realtek driver installed, minor improvement but it's started crashing again. It's just too much faffing around and a waste of time for everyone. Appreciate that you've tried to help but it's too frustrating to bother with.

Sorry to hear that you're giving up. I hate to say it, but driver support for XP64 was never all that great. Support for Vista64 is not perfect but it's a lot better. Perhaps when the time comes to upgrade, you could try again.

Yes, it's just too time consuming but do appreciate the help you've provided, it's a good service.

Maybe I'll try again after I change to another OS in future but it won't be soon although xp64 hasn't been the best choice I've made.

Thanks again.
