Cant see the set task or app to a particular core option anywhere in task manager is it available in XP ?

So how do you set other tasks to run on the other core while X3 runs a core all by its self?

Yes it is you have to load the game up then press Alt and tab, BTW if your using a AMD processor you will need to goto AMD's website to download the dual core utility program for this to work, now press contl alt delete to bring up the task manager.

In task manger you will see X3tc.exe running, right click on it, then in the list you will see set affinity. click on that and it will show what cores you are using to play the game X3 can use more then one core. Set which core you want to use, you can do this for all programs running, I normally have one core doing all the tasks and one just for the games I play, if a game can use both I normally set it to use both. Once done see if you have any improvement in game. If itss worse set it back as it was. Hope that helps you.

Ok thanks I did try that affinity before but it wouldnt let me use affinity for that task but after reading your onfo I tried tried again with other tasks and it worked.

I thaught X3 only used one core I'm confused. will the task manager remember what affinity I set or will I have to do it every time I start the computer?

Well that I cant answer for me when I set mine up which was some time ago, I went back in and all were set to use both cores again. So I have a feeling it does not remember. But I could be wrong!!!!

You can use a utility that Tom's Hardware developed to ensure your core bindings stay the same (THG Task Assignment Manager).
Details are here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ban ... k,815.html

If you set what processes use what core under 'Application Profiles', you can alter any to do with your AV software. Useful as once the AV software has loaded, chances are it won't allow you to tinker with it's affinity. Once done, a quick reboot and your AV program / X3:TC runs on it's new core.

I've been using it for a few months, never had any problems. Only criticism, you can only minimize it to your taskbar.

thx il take a look at that.

So which core is the master?

Is most of the code of multi core games and single core games run on core 0 or core 1

There's no such thing as a "master" core--Windows (and UNIX and MacOS, AFAIK) use symmetric multiprocessing where every CPU core has access to all the system resources and are used as equally as possible. Therefore it doesn't really matter which one the main X thread is running on.

Windows will use the default and as it seems mine is using both cores as default I should expect it would be the same for you aswell
