Noticed ***modified***, then the game is really not!

Ask here if you experience technical problems with X³: Terran Conflict, X³: Albion Prelude or X³: Farnham's Legacy.

More importantly, the chaps here at tech support may want your save to debug some problem, and if the save says ***modded*** they cannot be sure that you have not done something. And that is the primary reason for the flag: to be sure that a problem in a save is caused by the game itself, rather than user/something.

Occurs random rather than consistently. IMO, that sounds very nasty creature to hunt down. Could this be hardware/driver side-effect? (The Sticky requests some basic information to be included in every bug report. <hint><hint>)

On every W2K-Install of mine (two computers, each two fresh installs), ALL my X2 AND X3 Install got Modified from the start, WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING WRONG.

I tried EVERYTHING ... but suddenly i didnt care anymore.

When i switched to XP last year, i could finally start a new game that wasnt modified.

I dont know what it was, maybe a UK (english) install on a german OS. the strange thing is still, it happended on X2 as well as in X3.

I also installed English game version on Russian OS Vista Ultimate 64. Maybe it's a definitely the reason? Will try to re-start game today to get the very first save. If it'll be also modified, then it's absolutely should be noticed by devs and planned for fixing.

No, that wouldn't have anything to do with it.

Step 1: Load saved game x. No modified tag.
Step 2: Immediately reload saved game x. Game now has the *modified* tag. Saved down as saved game y.
Step 3: Email x and y to Egosoft.
Step 4: Hope they find something :-).

Did this on Friday night so they've had next to no time to investigate it, but fingers crossed......

You know, there was a bug way back in X2 where a reload could cause the modified tag to appear....

Started new game (once again as Argon Patriot) and made few autosaves in Omicron Lyra. After few reloads they were not "modified". That's all I can tell for now. The appearance of "modified" tag in non-modified game is still a mystery for me.

It also became modified with the Steam version of the game if you happened to start your game during a very short period when the original 1.2 patch (not the 1.2.1 patch) had not been correctly applied. One or two people have reported their games suddenly becoming modified for none of the above reasons, but no-one has been able to consistently reproduce the sequence of actions that causes this.
Well, a Friend has told me he has becomes the Modified after doing a Mission from the Paranids.
He must destroy a Faktory, or better to say he has a Passenger (?!) on Bord to take him to a Faktory.
This Person wont to destroy the Faktory and Tiuns the Playership, after that the Game is modified.

My game was also modified by the steam update. I kept playing thinking that the next patch would verify the original game and remove the modified tag but it was not... This issue along with forced ads and other steam crappiness means I will never buy another steam game. I am looking forward to a patch that removes all the steam stuff.. please?

The modified tag cannot be removed once it has been applied as the game has no way of knowing what has been modified. The Steam-related issue applied for a matter of hours when the game was first released, so unless you pre-loaded it before release day you are very unlikely to have encountered it.
