Well, I just downloaded and updated the audio drivers of my motherboard to the latest version. Still nothing. Sadly, the anti-virus suggestion didn't solve it either.
As for the question regarding X3TC's ability to access the files properly, I've shared the Egosoft directory in my documents containing the profile/save files, it's now a networked folder so X3 really shouldn't have any excuse for not being able to access the save files.
Oddly enough, I once deleted the whole save folder, yet the auto-saves remained. Meaning they are being stored elsewhere? That's what I'm assuming anyway. So where is it is what I'd like to know. I want to make sure that location is accessible as well. It should be already by default, I'm simply trying to cover are bases.
( I can't believe I have to try so hard just to get this game which I paid for to work properly. `_` )
Sorry, this is simply very frustrating to say the least.
Also, if crashes during auto-saving/loading is really as common as you say, why doesn't Egosoft release some sort of patch or offer a reliable solution that resolves the problem without fail? Because trail and error doesn't seem to be working.

Several misunderstandings.
First, by "interfering with the access to the files" I didn't mean anything to do with user rights or whether the folder could be found. Some software, including anti-virus software and some viruses, can intercept the actual process of writing to the file itself and cause problems such as crashes.
Second, the auto-save games are not stored anywhere different from the normal files. I don't know what you did but it either wasn't the folder containing the savegames that you deleted, or you were mistaken about the files still being there afterwards.
And third this isn't a particularly common problem at all. If it's caused by something like a virus or anti-virus software, as has been the case of a few occasions in the past, then there is nothing the game can do about it.

- at a guess, I'd say most of us here are probably using their PC's mainly for gaming
in some cases they're also used for other business/hobby related things, etc..
- but, for much of the time, the majority of serious PC gamers are looking for ways
to stop other software from preventing our fave games from running..
- hence the almost cavalier way we say, "Throw the bed out the window, if that makes the game work..!!"
- of course the real world isn't always like that - and some of use our PC's for much more serious things..
- as for your current problem, I'd be inclined to start again from scratch..
- uninstall X3:TC and remove all the Egosoft folders from your machine
- run a Registry Cleaner - to clean out any "stubs" - CCleaner is a free download via a websearch
- provided it's compatible, run the both the regular CCleaner and the Registry scrubber..
- re-install and hope that the codecs come back the right way up..
sounds a bit hit-and-miss, but with a system as complex as yours (- hardware-wise, as well!) - it's gotta be worth trying..
