But then what? It's the same as the argon patriot start for instance? I for one moved to omicron lyrae (which is a core sector, where the bountyhunters don't go)... AFAIk there's nothing that indicates a unique plotline or anything that separates my game from any other... no blue books, no nothing heh. You'd think I would have to make amends, some way to get back in favour with my own government... or anything heh, if I wanted the Paranids and Split to be pissed off at me Joe the Argon can do that just as easily, don't have to steal prototype ships for that... At least the poisoned paranid start has a clear goal heh

Agreed, it's definately not an easy feat, I had just hoped for a little background, not to mention some sort of reward (not being the ship itself). Since I fled to O.L. I now have the whole terran plot open for me, it's just weird to have some guy from Argon fleet tell me I have to escort a terran diplomat to show how "we do things around here" and because "it will look good on my file" heh... as a Split exile... it's a bit off-putting, to me anyway.
As for the poisoned Paranid, you're apparently infected with a conategous disease, and the Priest Duke has seased all your assets. If you can gather 25.000.000 credits in 3 days time to pay some Boron scientist for a cure, you get your ship (a Hyperion) and your assets (not sure, factories I assume?) back. If you don't make it, they'll be lost to you for ever.
Clear goal, a mission given the moment you flee the paranid sector, and more importantly a visible result the moment you succeed and a clear consequence if you don't! Come to think of it, I think I might just start again as the diseased paranid

cool....
thanks @ Reitema
I want to do this START. I always like it to be well ARD a start.
Remember doing XTREME start in a previous X. Had a discoverer with no sheild. A Spacefly killed me. NO JOKE!
Had a couple of goes tonight on the Unholy nightmare. FAILED big time.
Im determined to get a foothold though.
Funny i had previously overlooked this one as it said Fairly hard.
Its like trying to fight a war with a pea shooter.
WONDER if you can get the split/paranid back on side?
And how?

Interesting you should say that... I haven't even thought about wether or not it was possible, was stuck on the "how" of it myself. I've been doing small quests for split/paranid in other sectors, but to date no notable increase in reputation, which could be a reason to worry heh. Not that I've done a whole lot so far, only "easy" missions (which suddenly aren't all that easy anymore since you're constantly hounded by the damn bountyhunters heh).
Isn't it so that if you kill Xenon in one sector, that they call for reinforcements from other sectors? In regular x3 I was convinced that they just respawned, but it says so in the TC manual, so perhaps... Anyway, what if you start killing Xenon in sector 472, shouldn't they go through split sectors (closest Xenon sector is 598)... perhaps you can wait for em in the bordering Split sector and kill them there, improving your reputation? Just a thought, going to try that later on.

I guess it depends on where you start, but I managed by making it to the pirate base in Ghinn's Escape (apt, eh?). There I got the combat software, enabling me to use the damn PBE's effectively and pimp my ship speed and such. Failing that, if all else fails you could at least cripple the last bountyhunter in the batch, slowing him to a crawl and preventing others from spawning, but I suppose that would be misusing game mechanics and such heh. Would that that is your only problem though, what with the split military on your...ehm... posterior as well. Good luck mate!

You need to do the mission in the beginning of the tormented teladi start first. There's a thread on what starts and their unlocking criteria are.
There's also a tip (a sort of cheat I guess) that allows you to unlock all starting points available in one fell swoop. It requires a little editing in the registry however, and I'm not really fond of that. Still, it does allow you to try everything out

@ Looney
I am convinced that you can get back on good terms with both the paranid and the Split now, as I've risen in rank after an assassination mission. Perhaps a good way to start is going to sectors bordering Split sectors and look for these missions. More often than not you'll be sent into Split space, and especially on higher combat ranks you'll be certain to have a crapload of pirates there for the killing (to no small amount of joy of the Split people
). Forget the Xenon, time to let the lowlives of this universe do the repenting *for* me!
I don't think I'll even bother with the paranid btw, never liked those guys anyway AND they make for a wealth of great stealable ships and we did get away with it once eh
I'll teach those three-eyed freaks what it means to send bountyhunters after me

well funny enough i have been testing that myself.
I did a split mission, given in boron space.
Unfortunately got no raace rank increase from it.
If i cannot be friend either the split or the paranid this start IS A MISTAKE.
How can you do plot missions through their space otherwise.
Personally i never liked anything the split did. Its the Paranid i likes.
I likes the Tl, the Hyperion, The Demos. Gotta have these ships.
Also Empires Edge is a good sector for TRADER and for access to YAKI space. Always liked Paranid, must be friend them.... I just hope these bounty hunters stop soon. They are turning up in M6's now

Heh yeah well I wasn't complaining about their ships, more about the paranid themselves... I, Bla bla bla, holy lover of the holy trinity in a platonic way, true follower of ponifex maximus paranidia but I love him like a brother, have pity on you, unholy creature... got a mint?
Please.
Anyway, not straying too far off-topic, I managed to raise my standing with the split two ranks now, so it's definately possible. I imagine the bountyhunters will stop the moment you befriend the paranid again, so perhaps I'm going to have to do the same before they turn up on flocks of m1's heh
