In response to how the UK English and the 'Merican English versions are different...
Well, not much in terms of gameplay. But there could be some embarrasing or confusing situations.
For example, for us (Americans) getting our fanny shot off by a pirate named Randy wouldn't be half as much fun as it is for our Brittish brothers.
Cheers!

I know this, but as I explained in my previous post:Xenon_Slayer wrote:It's the first news entry on the homepage.
Is what I get when trying to go onto anything X related that isn't this forum. Never mind, I'll just look at it when I get home.Access Denied

I am fairly sure that Egosoft developers did not include localized (british/american) humor.. After all, they are german developers, and are not so inclined to use fannies, jolly rogers and whatnot..
Furthermore, the differences of british and american ("ish") english are so subtle, they are unnoticeable to a non-native speaker most of the times, and can be quite easily ignored by native speakers of the dialect.

Slang is very different, and some British people might take offense to American usage of certain words ;p (Most of us brits are used to it now thought hehe)X2-Eliah wrote:I am fairly sure that Egosoft developers did not include localized (british/american) humor.. When I went to Canada I almost got beaten up because I asked someone for a fag.
Back on topic. I'm sure the problems with the US shipping is publisher related?
I'm so excited now! I cant wait to get my copy, If I don't receive it on release day I think I'll /wrist ;p I had an order with play but canceled it because the last game I ordered was received a week later. Ordered with egoshop to ensure (hopefully) that I'll receive it in time.
Btw, where is the fight trailer ego! Im itching to see it ;p

Now think carefully about the following - Do you honestly think Egosoft want to make it difficult for anyone to get a copy of their game or is it possible that they simply couldn't get anyone to publish/distribute the game in the US?dtrowle wrote:

I definitely read in one of the posts that someone had got things shipped from play.com to the US. However checking over the site that doesn't seem an available option. So that does leave Egosoft, Steam and no doubt ebay at some point as options for the US.

My, my, look at all us nervious and anxious people..it must be a great honor for Ego to sit back and watch us go nuts over another new game/addition they made. I give them full credit though, they left the fan base mod things and saw real talent in some, since Ego is not that BIG an organization, I see this as a good move on their part, just waiting to see the plot and storyline in this one, I like a good story almost as much as capping ships and flying them, lol.

Play.com does not have shipping to the U.S available. Egosoft's website has it available for a small fortune...
I would rather die than install steam on one of my computers. I did that once, it was a nightmare and I swore never to have anything to do with them ever again.
Looks like I have to sit this one out. Or wait until it is on E-bay, if that is even legal.

Why would they have trouble finding a distributer for such a fine game?
Not all of us over here in the US are busy pounding on a Playstation like a crazed, r******* chimpanzee. Maybe a boutique distributor like Stardock (or Impulse I think they are called now) would be the way to go?
Whatever. I'm going to have to wait until I can get my hands on a shiny, tangible box. The only game I've played more than X3 is Startopia, which I've installed on 3 different PCs since its release. If I understand Steam's mode of operation, its one installation, and the game won't work if the internet is down. Meh.

Evidently you don't quite understand.Danya Turrel wrote:If I understand Steam's mode of operation, its one installation, and the game won't work if the internet is down. Meh.

As quite a few people have already said in the various threads on the subject in the last week or so, most Steam games, including all of Egosoft's, work just fine in offline mode.
Edit: Typo.

You can install it on any PC with Steam that you are logged into. The internet is only used to download the game and (maybe) do some sort of online check the first time you play. Steam games work perfectly with no internet 99.99% of the time.Danya Turrel wrote:Why would they have trouble finding a distributer for such a fine game?
