Well, I seldom have crashes in any sector. When I do it is when auto saving in a station. Actually, I have not had a single crash with the new version 1.2. I get pretty good frame rates, except when a lot of Khaak's are on the screen at once.
It is a good ideal for every computer owner to take thier case off of the computer twice a year and blow out all the dust inside. This will help them last a lot longer and also give better performance over the long haul.
Do not have to worry about the fan on my video card ( Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 ). Does not have one.
hmmmm guess that answers my question A nvidia card that crashes
Pjk you say you doubt it would be video card related, but dont say why?
In my experience, when brainstorming, you throw all possibilities into the pot, even the improbable.
I have come accross a situation where by it was a hot cup of coffee placed on a moulding machine by an operator that was messing up the computerised setting of the machine....Yup, I know, bloody daft, it was through an excersise like this that the problem was resolved... but to rule out the video card as a culprit, if you have any tech knowlage as to why you doubt its related to a card, then please just post a quicky as to why you doubt it.
Im a computer dummy compared to some of you guys, i switch it on an expect it to work, but every little helps.
Ive just looked at the stats, and they are showing a whopping 65% , nearly two thirds of X2 ers have or ,are, experiencing CDTs, and from those stats, this has to be a MAJOR issue that needs resolving.
I find it hard to browse all the CTD threads, so many of them, so if you can post as much info in here, then it may just trigger a relationship between something in settings, game, playing etc etc and CDTs.
And as daft as this may sound, it could end up as it being something simple and easy to fix.
My crashing to desktop stopped after I increased my memory, cpu and VCore voltages in my Motherboard Bios. They were set at default but obviously this wasn't enough.
Using Leadtek nForce 2 Ultra 400 with an Athlon XP 3200+
At this moment 21% of voters are experiencing CTD during save (auto or manual) As has been stated elsewhere, the savegame is not complete. If I were examining this issue, I'd collect together the corrupt save games from as many of these users as possible. Surely the point at which the save stops will tell them something about the problem.
I have already offered to send in corrupt savegame(s) but as yet have had no reply. I still don't even know whether Egosoft believe this to be a bug or faulty hardware.
I did actually vote and say I never had a crash, however, that was before I installed 1.2, now I get a CTD every now and again while saving at a station.
Just had my first one since 1.2 patch update. Crashed during auto-saving while docking with station. I might add that it happened AFTER I had flown around inside the station and picked up one of those cargo containers and then hit Esc. to complete the docking. I've checked the file size of the save and it's of n ormal size however, it's now corrupted and will not load.

Just started having CTD problems. Occurs only when loading a saved game, game saved in mine in brennen's triumph immediately after completing mission there. This occurs every time, I can no longer load this particular save game (I will try others and update this post).
Sys:
Asus P4T5333-C
Intel 3.06ghz
512MB 1066 RDRAM
ATI 9700 pro
Audigy 2 Pro (internal)
The latest drivers have been installed for all major system components, as well as for X2 (1.1, 1.2 as well as the MK3 Trading Software).
I would be willing to send copies of save game information or anything else to help solve this problem. If so requested.
Edit:
Have confirmed that it only happens with that particular save (again, located in brennen's triumph mine) have one other save made with salvage insurance in same sector just prior to completing mission.
I think both autosave and the manual save are the same bug, it appears to CTD in both at the moment, with most users prefering to have autosave on.
Its interesting to note the number of first timer CTDs from patch 1.2, mine was also a CDT from 1.2 onwards, I may be wrong, BUT, i dont think patch 1.2 is the culprit, I suspect the bug has always been in the code, and may be triggered by something happening, like an increase in graphic activity, and when you save, a CTD happens.
There could also be a relationship between this and CTDs happening randomly, something is triggering the event .....But what , thats the question??.
Got a Crash in the 18 million sector, after get 20k for clearing out the sector, went to TF for quick save, and the autosave save seams to be the culprit.
Had another CTD last night, curiously enough, when a large force of khaak had appeared again went to do my usual cowardly trick of saving before messing with the enemy,(manual save) and back to desktop I went.
Yet ive had a few instances of busy screen with khaak, and saved with no troubles.
I had a friend mention that the Codecs for sound and video could be an issue as well. I CTD intermittently...no rhyme or reason, can happen any time--in any game. I'm going to remove all my sound and video codecs, then reinstall from the WFMdist.exe in the X2 programs area. See if that helps. If not, it's a full XP reinstall for me because CTDs have been killing me for a few months now. Maybe since DirectX 9.0b came out?
If any mods reads this: would it be possible to make this thread a tech sticky, then all the ctd reports (hopefully) can be all in one place, and with the eu version coming, will make it easier for them to report should they have any problems.
At the moment, there are CTD threads all over the shop, and its a bit messy wading thro hundreds of seperate threads.
Keep voting on when you experience crashes though, and keep posting, how, when where and specs etc, as this information may help in getting the root cause of the problems.
