That looks great! Hope the story will match the quality of the graphics. Even I don't have a lot of time to play the game - I will support you @ EGO :) for giving us such a wonderful space of imagination.

I like the little things. Like that fighter that was firing off its HEPTs with a rotating gun barrel. Sure, it's pointless, and in a recoiless, energy-based weapon it's kind of dumb, but it's awesome, and that's OK with me.

New Terran Conflict "Build Video" Comments.

Post by yourpowersareweakoldman »

That video looks impressive...

The most substantial thing I noticed is the station construction. Did you see how neat and right-angled the connecting tubes were? Could be an improved station building system. Space-Legos!

The fighter midway through shining green from plasma throwers looked good.

Those two red-toned ships, I wonder if they are player-painted ships, or if they are pirate versions of some of the ships. You think Pirate Corvettes or perhaps frigates could come into play? The ship at 2:10 looks like a souped up Centaur!

The weapon near the end at first kind looked like a beam that broke off into a swarm. But I think they just made the smoke trails for the missiles white, so we can actually see them coming. (More importantly, GOING)

I also liked when the shots impacted on that fighter, you saw the shields glow as they dissipated the energy. Nice!

It's also here (and doubtless many other places as well by now).

Also seems as though the pirates have gotten their hands on at least one Argon Centaur, from the looks of it. Lots of other new, drool ships, too. :D

However, one little quibble. I saw a lot ships flying around shooting other ships and stations. But I didn't see any building going on. No sector maps, no station interfaces. A very brief glimpse of a ship's command console. I thought this was the 'Build' trailer. :?
I guess he was talking about building your fleet. :D Missile Frigates, bomber squadrons, and he said "enhanced versions of many known models." I want my enhanced LX!
But if this was the "Build" trailer I cannot wait until I see the "Fight" trailer.

Indeed... minus the voice-over this could have passed for the "Fight" trailer.

Which, of course, means they'll have all sorts of fun and wonderful things to show us in the Fight trailer- might be a lot of new "eye candy" sort of stuff. Good thing I'm upgrading my machine (massively.)

As a side note, I noticed the little glows from the engine flares that were so wonderful in X2 are making a return. :D See, you CAN learn from X2!

To be fair, I think station building probably isn't particularly interesting for a trailer (particularly if the mechanics haven't altered much).

A few more complexes and a demonstration of the interface (if it's changed) would still have been nice though.

Funny enough, one of them I noticed, looked like a pirate version of the Goner Tradeship from XTM.

refuses to load for me. The other videos work so it's not a drive issue.
Please fix the AI Egosoft! I'm sick of losing ships(doesn't matter what class) when they fly into what they are attacking! This occurs even if the object is stationary and doesn't have any protrusions.(Like a pirate base) It's just sad, and it totally ruins the entire concept of the series!

166MB download though, so be prepared for that. Not sure if there was a smaller low res download - couldn't see one.

Raises a question: "Why?"

Why more big ships? Why fleets? Just to have them, or for a need?

If there is no real need, many will complain about "lack of goals". Look at player owned Equipment Dock in X2/X3:R. Pay 50 mil for essentially "nothing"? Or Avarice, the void. A combat fleet is meaningful only if it can carry out its purpose: to crush an enemy. Or perhaps the "re-balancing" and "more big ships" means that player will no longer be able to fight alone? That you absolutely need a fleet to go against anybody? Some potential there, but if you start alone and bankrupt like in previous games that can be hard.

If there is a real need for fleet, that probably means an active enemy. Title of the game might hint so. Active enemy means that you have to fight. And if your reason to get the game is to build a trade empire rather than fight, then the Teladi in you will vomit on the thought of all the overhead needed to invest on defensive measures. Ask anyone who did build big during X3:R 1.2 and after update to 1.3 found roaming Kha'ak Invasions (that were tamed by the 1.4 patch).

The enemy could be defeatable of course. Once killed, gone. So you did gather a fleet, won, and now what? You gathered credits, bought Avarice, and now "own" void?

One thing is sure: whatever we think we see in the trailers is probably nowhere near the whole truth, and we most likely misinterpret the glimpse we see. For that reason I have never watched the first teaser, and only fell for this one in hope to see "Build", while it apparently is about "Build" (the two being entirely different).

Looks very nice although some of the ships shown look a little "cartoony" to me. Also was it just me or was there actually very little build content. Seemed to be more about new interfaces and ships.....

Looks good, but a bit more 'Eve like' than X3 - more spikes sticking out of ships, flashier designs.
I wonder will the spikes be functional or just for show.
As said above, i'd like a reason to have a destroyer or a fleet, rather than just because i can.
Maybe the Argon fleet will be crippled in a massive battle and it'll be left to you to raise a fleet and come to the rescue, before the Universe is overrun.
Also, i'd like to be able to crush the pirates(or any race of your choosing) and claim their space as my own. I'd then sign a peace treaty with the local planets and charge them rent for living in my space :).

I especially liked that big explosion at the end.
Finally some real cap ship deaths.

That explosion at the end i think was a trailer only explosion to end the trailer with a bang, i doubt that will be in the game.
