Never touched online play, but the computer suffered a catastrophic crash every time we finished it (or shortly after)
So we played it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and... wait for it... again! shock! horror! awe!
Last time I played it was about a year ago. I knew that after playing X3 for a minute I'd never be able to look at Freelancers aging graphics again, so I spent a night jumping around the universe blasting the crap out of anyone.
I was flying a Titan with Level 9 Reavers and 2 Diamondbacks, and... *thinks* what was that turret? Salamander? -anyways, up against Liberty/bretonia/Kusari/Rheinland police a Lvl 10 shield shrugged off almost everything they could throw at me.
[Memories:]
Remeber Stealthblades? Awesome weapons. And the unknown systems were amazing -well, one was especially awesome, a huge mine field covered the system, shillouetted against a star over 200km's away against a beautiful nebula in the background -and the music there was something else altogether. You really felt as if you'd gone beyond the known systems and deep into Nomad Controlled space. It was a wild, lonely, and very beautiful place. Oh, if you flew to the sun there was a chance you might see dead sleeper ships resting in the system, and even if you didn't, you could bounce off the sun for a while
(
Damn my memory.

Why won't it work as well for collage stuff I don't know....)
Trade Lanes were a brilliant thing -All the core systems had them. The further you got from civilisation the sparser they became until everywhere was Cruise engine only.
Some of the Outcast systems were beautiful places, where high end equipment and deadly missions went hand in hand.
And the music throughout the game was just perfect. They nailed every nation's 'feel' so right. Like, when you were up against the Rhineland fleet in the magellen system, fighting along side Hackers, having to take down gunboats and intercept torpedo bombers,
Damnit. *goes to play freelancer*
