Lately I've been using mostly the XaiCorp best buy / sell .. You might want to consider stealing the way that script uses picking a station + good sold there for UI. Much more convenient in the long term especially if you need to check prices repeatedly.

Am I right in thinking the xai best buy/sell commands are for remote ship trading?

All I wanted to do with my scripts was to have some better way of getting at the data available to you. It's primarily for sole traders who know what they have (or know what they like to trade in) and know how far they want to go. You still have to (or have the option to decide whether to) go and do the trade yourself.

The problem with scripting is that it can be too easy to take the player out of the equation. This way, you still (I feel) get the impression that you are making the decisions. That said, I'm sure the UI could be a tad friendlier given a bit of TLC.

But thanks for your comments - they are most welcome, glad you got some use out of it :D

Cheers,

Rob.

I always used the tradenet remotely, even when I had only one trader. Sitting in lumbering freighter while it very .. slowly .. makes .. it's .. way .. from .. trading .. opportunity .. to .. another is enough to make grown man cry (or at least reach for that gameboy DS! ). Especially before you can affort jump drive!

Your script was extremely useful at locating those fat Soya Husk deals early on. It's just when you have to monitor the situation regularly to snatch a deal the ware selection interface becomes a bit awkward.

The way I see it that when you have 1 ship in the beginning, you're lean and mean and get maximum profit out of every deal. When your organization grows fatter with 2-3 freighters, it's natural that the profit margins start to slip and you start delegating management to scripts such as best sell/best buy. When your org grows even bigger, you do not even make invidual trading ware decisions and your trading org becomes even less efficient with UTs. But it doesn't matter because 6 UTs easily produce higher profit / game time than single max profit freighter. And the CEO (that's you! :P) can concentrate on looking for good spots for factory complexes etc.

Xai corps best buy/sell is bit in-between from completely manual trading to completely automated. It takes away from you the decision where exactly to buy/sell, but you still decide the ware and the region.

Yes the RedStar software is pitched at the 'single freighter with JumpDrive' level - which, funnily enough, is what I like to do for a while in each game.

Without a JD single player trading can be a bit painful, particularly if you dont have hours and hours to spend in front of the computer.

Call it 'niche software' :P

I find this script most useful, and was actually rather appalled to find out that this function wasn't included in the original game.

Though, out of curiosity, is there a way to get simply the five highest selling prices or the five lowest buying prices idependent to the base value of the goods? When I use this software, it's to see what deals are available. Not to see what deals have a really great margin. I can decide that for myself.

Running a search for Energy Cells around the Wall and coming up with no information is unsettling. In my opinion, you should let the trader decide which deal is good, and simply post all deals available.

Hi,

There's no reason the script couldn't be modified to do what you'd like. I wrote it this way because it saves the player having to remember what the base price of the goods are.

It's pitched really at the kind of player who knows the kind of goods on which he can make a reasonable profit, and gives the appropriate information.

Without looking at the script I can't remember the exact code that compares to base price, but if I get chance later I'll have a look.

Cheers,

Rob.

RJV wrote:Check your ships Orders/Trade commands, and you will see 2 options (buy and sell). Each option will prompt you to specify a jump radius, a good you wish to trade in, and a start point for your radius. The software will then scan all the sectors in the radius IN WHICH YOU HAVE AN ASSET (ship, station, sat), then provide you with a list (up to 5 stations), sorted by best price of where that commodity is being bought (sold) at a 'favourable' price. It will also tell you the closest jumpgate and how many km from the gate to the station.
That is for the jump radius ;)

Good script RJV
