Are they going to be argon ships? if so it would seem that royal navy ship names may suit. would need to know the race for the naming theme really.
big old list- http://www.answers.com/topic/list-of-ro ... ship-names
possibles-
swiftsure (nuclear hunter killer)
iam a fan of the D's
Dreadnought (first battleship built a 100 years ago, name means fear nothing but god)
Daedalus
Daring (new type 45 anti air destroyer)
Dart (the ship does look dart like)
Dauntless
Dragonfly

well what i was thinking was:
they are going to be argon ships.
but they are going to be special ships used by the Argon Secret service but will be available to buy at a hidden millitary base
i am going to make their stats much better than the respective classes of the argon
e.g nova has 1 mounted aft turret, secret service M3 has a dual mounted aft turret
so navy ship names will be appropriate, but choosing the right ones for each ship is tough for me.

i hated naming tanks in the tib sun and RA2 mods i made as well, picking the right name without sounding cheesy is mighty tricky.
it may be easier after youve spent a few hours behind the controls to get the feel for them.
and have a working range set up so you can use a naming theme.
TVR have a good choice of names of mythical beasts, chimera, cerbera (from cerberus the beast that guards the gates of hell), griffith etc.
this site may be a good source of such names-
http://webhome.idirect.com/~donlong/mon ... nsters.htm
i like the description of thw wyvern 'Appearing quite often in heraldry, the wyvern is a serpent-like dragon with wings. It has two legs on which talons that look like an eagles talons. It has a tail that ends in a barb. the wyvern symbolizes war, pestilence, envy and viciousness.' you could almost design a ship from that description.
