Nice.....

Only been about 48 hours since I bought the game...and after finding out my manual that came with my US retail vesion was missing a large chunk of the early portions of the manual (IE the sections on the controller profiles, the description and info on the game types, the pilot manual, and the trade, build, and think, the getting to know your interface, the flying by M.O.U.S.E, the weapons control system, How to Start, Where are You, sections were all missing-and that was just in the first 1/3 of my manual).

As a newbie to the series....I wanted to play the game....as the game seems to be very deep...but was really struggling to become familar with how or what I should/could do. I now feel with this manual, and with the other great community created tutorials, tha with a little reading, a little practice and patience, that I will actually be able to play and enjoy X3 now.

Thanks to all and have a Happy and safe New Years.

Guys

Anyone know how I can print this manual without the blue background. This uses up a lot of ink and would prefer black text on white with the graphics as required.

cheers

Thanks alot guys, i like a good manual even though it wont teach me anything new it's still nice! good storys in the X2 one got me reading more of the X related novels.

And to dclnmurray1, try printing in greyscale.

Happy New Year egosoft, thanks for the amasing gifts you continually give us. :)

Ya it's nice but why for pete sake with a blue background or for that matter any background at all? The cost of ink to print it out will be more then the game itself.

I've saved it as a rich text to print out, that wipes out the images.

So I repeat Dave's question, does anyone know how to print out the pdf file without the blue background while changing the lettering to black?

Thanks a lot for the updated manual, it sure comes in handy. Now if only I could print it without spending a fortune, that would be nice.
Especially since ALT+TAB doesn't really work all that well.......

Copy/Paste to Word works, but that really, really screws up the formatting, which makes it rather useless, unless I want to spend hours searching through it....

Anyways, thanks for a great game, hope to see more of this in the future.

Wow, this is grand compared to the one that got printed! :o I hope Egosoft doesn't push itself and the publishers for such a short date for X4 or X3's Xpansion...

Making the Manual Printer-Friendly

Well I found a way to remove all the blue backgrounds, and change the text to black or whatever color you like.
It takes a long long time to do all 97 pages though, and you need the full Acrobat. Perhaps there is an easier way, I dont know, but if you want to keep the formatting, and images, here's how you do it.

Open the document in Acrobat

Use the "touch up text tool" and click somewhere on the text. It will create a square of maybe half the page with text in it. Select the text, rightclick and select properties, then fill with black color.

Use the "touch up object tool" and select the background (Click on it) then hit delete. And voila', its all gone.

Unfortunately, the text in this manual is white, so you wont see much if you delete the backgrounds first.

I have no idea if you can do larger pieces or several pages at once, but it doesn't look like it now.

Oh well, only 92 more pages to go.....

Any chance Ego will set up some sort of a system to get a printed version of the new manual? I know some people will say that Ego owes them a copy for free, but I'd certainly pay some coin to get a high-quality paper version.

Page 67: Non Plot Missions:

There is some strange writing in the several mission describtions.
- Taxi Runs; According to the discribtion you (whoever wrote the manual) generalised all the different mission into one describtion.

- Shady Taxi Runs; If you have bitten of more than you can chew, go through the nearest gate and await them one at the time? Very usefull info, but might I suggest that you first MUST deliver your passenger to its destination. Once you dock at the wrong station or make a jump (even a jump with JD to the nearest gate) will make you loose the mission.

- Assassination missions; have been reported to be included in V1.3, describtion is missing.

For a full list of missions, look here.

Excellent. I can now waste the rest of the afternoon reading this instead of working. First day back after 2 weeks.

Some errors in the guide that I noted as I was reading through it. I'm only half way through at the moment so i'll post more issues if I see any.

p24: radar symbols missing an M6
p26: the weapons picture does not include the A-PAC / B-IRE lasers mentioned in the text.
p35: You 'Trade' is not under the 'Station' menu (see picture on p10).
p36: "we wish to sell our goods instead of buy." - doesn't make sense.
p36: "looking at the picture, after our trade shows our.." - incorrect placement of comma.
p38: "will make you 220,000 profits." - doesn't make sense.
p38: "time is money and delay is lost..." - should be a new sentence.
p41: An L sized factory will have the production of three standard factories" - Is a standard factory a small or medium factory?
p41: "especially if you selling cheaper" - doesn't make sense.
p44: "if for instance you hired an Argon Mammoth" - should be a new sentence.
p44: "within close proximity together" - doesn't make sense.

The manual is great, thanks Ego for the great support.

Removing the Watermark.
Acrobat (PDF) is designed so you cant remove a watermark, file protection, but you can do it quite quickly if you own a full version. Failing that only the creator can provide you a copy without the watermark. If your even considering printing out 97 pages I would not think that ink is an issue and if it is just print the pages you need (like controls) till you manage to get a version without background.

You truly did have an afternoon to waste :)

Errors or no, we are still all grateful for the speed at which this new manual was produced.
