Another aspect is that no company can afford to risk publishing a player created manual. Even endorsing an online one could be dangerous, based on the principle that the company is profiting based on the work of unpaid volunteers. If one of said volunteers gets nasty and decides to file a lawsuit based on this, it could lead to a long (and unprofitable) court case, no matter how many EULAs and license agreements that person had accepted.

IANAL, but I think such lame lawsuits can be shot in the head by having would-be submitters accept an agreement to contribute that states that all information submitted is property of (in this case) Egosoft and is subject to editing and/or duplication by entities authorized by Egosoft. Any parties not accepting these terms can take their info and play elsewhere.

If I were Egosoft, I'd blame Enlight for the problem. After all, this was the company that send exactly one single copy of X3 to every EB in Canada. Wow, one copy...that's great distribution :P

Blame Enlight, blame Enlight!

*Mob with torches and various sharp pointy objects appears, menacing a cowering Enlight.*

WOW.

My only advice for Egosoft: Sign with a different publisher.

I'm not disappointed in the manual, but rather the fact that it has several features that seem to be missing from the actual game that would have been nice, such as the additional graphics and gameplay options, the tutorial, etc. The shield graphics would have been nice too.

I'm certain there are many other things missing from the actual game, as I've only been playing for a few minutes but I was wondering if they would be implemented anytime in the future?

And yes Canadians, your manuals are all wrong too :) There were no copies of this game at Futureshop, Best Buy, etc. and yeah, perhaps only 1 copy to each EB, but I went to Staples and they had 5.

I work at Wal-Mart, and we have like 10 copies at all times

I was also wondering where that tutorial was... considering I'm new to the X-Universe, it would have been really nice... really nice.

It’s good this was caught and I’m appreciative of Egosoft’s efforts towards creating a corrected .PDF version and making it available for Download for those of us who have registered our game.

But “you had to know a But was coming”
I often “ok ok occasionally” reference the manual while playing which is difficult to do with a .PDF especially when you can’t Alt-Tab out.
If this is indeed an error on the part of Enlight I assume that the correct manual will be included in any future runs of X3 produce. what if anything are they going to do to correct the error for those that have already purchase a 1st run copy containing the defective or incorrect manual?

Has there been any talk with or from Enlight regarding the possibility of providing these consumers a printed copy of the correct or corrected manual upon request? If not perhaps there should be.

It’s not something I’ll get all worked up about not getting but if a corrected reprint was made available I would most certainly want / request one.

Again Thanks for catching the error and any effort involved in publishing the correct or corrected version in PDF format it’s appreciably better than nothing

On this note, we created an online FAQ for X2 - you can see it here
Well, that's the spirit, and definitely a good start. I don't even know what the difference is between X2 and X3 (nor do I want to know at this point), so anything that describes X3 simply and easily is helpful. Just having a listing of all of those crazy acronyms (i.e. AHEN = low level chicken cannon) now allows me to whip off lame jokes like that one like I was some kind of X-fanatic.

I have found this site:

http://argonopedia.ppcis.org/

The Argonopedia, to be helpful, but a lot of times, it just describes things the way the Betty computer voice would: it tells me what the thing is, but it doesn't usually say much as to why it's important, or how exactly to use it.

Sigh. Enlight can't do anything right, can they...

Or was this another "issue beyond their control?"
I really really suggest you guys try to find a new publisher if and when you ever publish a new game, because the mess that Enlight puts you through is just ridiculous. What else do they need to {bleep} up before you realise they really don't give a crap about your game?

You're getting to be seriously in the running for Worst Release Ever, and that's a damn shame.

it's funny, I was about to say something similar.

Of course, i'm sure there's *good* reasons they chose Enilght to be the publisher, but I can't imagine why, if they do make any money off this game, they would choose them again - if it weren't for my interest in another game they published - (Warlords Battlecry 3) then I never would have found x2 to begin with.

That said, I have to say this, I actually saw 3 copies of x3 in wal-mart down the road, and I *never* saw x2 anywhere other than ebgames when it came out... has to be good at least they got wal-mart to sell it.

Well, I really like the friendly tone in this forum, but I have to say that I with respect to the manual I'm not sure that there is much reason for me to simply say "Thank you" and moving on.

I paid for the boxed version of X3 WITH a printed manual and I now have to find out that the manual is apparently not usable. While I appreciate that a corrected PDF version will be provided, I'll also be happy to give either Egosoft or Egosoft's US publisher my mailing adress, so that I can receive a corrected PRINTED manual.
I don't want to pay extra for printing out a manual (in fact I don't want to print out anything) and I don't want a manual printed in letter format, but I want a handy manual that is usable with the game I bought.

I know that mistakes can happen (and I make mistakes too), but if they happen, they should be corrected and I don't see that providing a PDF manual is more than an interim solution. Other people might think different about this, but for me a printed manual is an imporrtant factor in my decision to buy a game (especially when it is as complex as X3).

While packaging a 6 month old draft is embarrising at best, I have to salute there honesty in admitting the mistake and offering to make ammends. 8)

Any chance of future runs with the correct version of the manual in them ?

So if an old version exists, and thats what was printed in the US, then an 'intended' version must exist. Why is that not immediately available to us? That shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to output and upload. You can always update it later. . . . .like . . .everything . .. else.

Oh, and it would help the communiity a lot if you would enable the search function on the site. I'm tired of asking questions and getting flamed to look at some post 40 pages back.

That's 6 weeks not months. ;)

I am actually quite happy we got the wrong manual.

Because it shows us all the features that Egosoft removed!

(and now so we can complain and ask for them back!) :D
