Your post is just plain rude. I like X3 and am happy to say that.
So you're saying I am a fan girl, an idiot or a brown nose.

Exactly when did I insult you specificaly Pixel? Please point and illustrate that point! No, I made a general sterotype to thoes that wade in on threads with comments like yours, and predictibly they came, in spades, personalising, flaming, and not even specific towards the game... followed by:pixel wrote:what?esd wrote:Most of your post was just fine, Pixel, but there was no need for the bit I quoted. I replied to 'the tigers eye', not Triple-F (and noone of that name has posted here btw)
So it is ok for tigers eye to call me a fan girl, idiot or brown nose, but not for me to be offended by that?
@Trips - don't know if you're referring to my post as being 'playground' talk, I don't see why - apart from replying to tigers eye post I did point out constructive positive points of X3 for you. I have no problem with you not likeing X3, I just don't like being insulted, surely that is fair enough?
@Crypton - troll? lol, comments like that are trollish in themselves surely?

Seriously, I admit X3 has faults, but they are being fixed pretty darn quick IMO. I compare X3 to BF2, every patch that came out for BF2 (which had some pretty massive bugs) broke as much as it fixed, and every patch took a l o n g time to arrive.
Who's not even played the game... ohh dear!MGA wrote:I agree with pixel here. I may not have x3 but then I'd rather wait for it to get better.
Lastly, your kettle is blacker than blck considering your continued posts and personal comments towards F.A.C.T members, so don't ever take the high horse when yours died off some time ago.
Like I said Trips, people here ain't worth it, can't get a debate going, can't get points going, they'll flame you, personaliy atack you and come out with ohh my this is a great game despite the obvious, just pointless.

Funnily enough, someone with a tag a bit like the first 3 letters of the Alphabet and who posted not a million miles away from your post has it in a list of known things to effect frame rates.

No idea, it was still in the list when I looked the other night though. Weird how you can miss obvious things though like turning off explorer.

The HUD doesnt affect peformance, the video screen does, minimize that and having the HUD up or down doesnt make a difference to FPScaptain_crunch wrote:I don't know why everyone keeps ripping on the HUD, I think its great. Doesn't seem to make a difference for me performance wise at all...

Question? why log into a forum for a game you dont like or dont want to play?
This has been said many times but if you look thru the negativity x3 is still playable and if you do give egosoft support they will patch it the community with script the game.
But this requires patience. I like many others were upset on the release state but going to play this game as support the updateing to come.
In a perfect world this wouldent of happened but it did, where do we go now? ignore some fun with a game that get better over time or throw it away and move on? that is your decision but logging into the very games forum and being this negative is not very helpfull.

Re: It's a Shame And Shameful
I disagree with the menu, its new and just what the reviewers ordered. I remember reading review after review that castigated the 1980's text based 75+ shortcut key'd menu that X2 had... it was an impossiblity for a new player to navigate via that mess. Now, its a simple point and click device, which does not require any keys whatsoever. You can still use key shortcuts because undoubtedly if they removed them... whole screaming herds of banshee's would descend.Trips wrote: THE MENU SYSTEM
It’s truly terrible, and becomes ridiculous when your actually docked, for many, many reasons. I’ll be more specific if anyone finds this view strange.
CAPTURING SHIPS
I’ll admit, I might have missed something here, but what happened to just making the pilot bail and it’s yours. The only way I have found of actually capturing the thing is by leaving my ship, drifting over to the new one and claiming it. Though as I said, I might be missing a cunningly hidden command.
I know some older players do not like the mouse nav, but it has brought the game forward. If it still had the archaic menu nav system it used to have, then it would be even tougher than it is for new players to learn things.
Now maybe some parts of it could be made better - adding or removing - but I have to say, if you want to state you hate something, I would much rather read how you would improve upon it instead of just slamming it.
So IF you don't mind posting in this thread still (despite what others say), I would be interested to hear which parts you find un-neccesary, or difficult, complicated or just plain confusing! I am interested, if you have time to respond

As for capturing ships, I personally feel there are two halves here. Alot of people prefer the old way, because it's just plain inconvenient to have to get out of a ship to merely "stake a claim". I personally think that its far too easy, and not only should you get out to approach the ship - but a la X2 the Threat's opening vids, you should have to hack it - think CS when you deploy/defuse a bomb... approach and hold down a button, see a percentage complete bar appear in screen. In my personal view just getting close doens't mean a comp is going to be more vulnerable (and I personally don't think X2's method was ever good, if someone left their ship then you could control it? wtf?) - so you should have to hack it instead.
This would then also give extra merit and bonus to the "takeover software" (or whatever it's called, available from Pirate bases) for 600k. Rather than just not getting out of your ship, you don't have to hack it for so long either... as it's an autohack - backing up exactly why the thing is illegal.
I think capturing has got alot of potential to adding to the gameplay, but alot of people want things like now, done, without any slight inconvenience! Bah! I wave my walking stick at them!

Re: It's a Shame And Shameful
This is gonna be a long answer...
External docking isn't bad after all. Instead of getting lost inside a big station or hitting escape after 100 dockings to avoid manual docking, now you dock outside, end of story.
Cockpits: widely discussed, I don't miss them that much, although it would be a nice feature to have back. Easy to implement, hard to build.
Warptunnels: I have the feeling that we're gonna see them again shortly.
In the case of an expansion, the same engine would be used (with some minor improvements), models and textures would receive a slight face lift, some new storyline, 5-6 new sectors, a couple of new weapons and finally 10-15 new scripted equipment. What we got instead? Fire it up again, then fire up X2 and see the diferences. The engine is screaming by itself that it's a new one, as for the others, you allready know them.
I have all 4 X games installed, all 4 of them. XBTF was the start, X-Tension was a plain expansion with higher textures and additional features (proposed or not by the community). X2 was a really successfull attempt to bring XUniverse into the modern era of 3D graphics, with it's fair share of additions.
After seeing X3 running, I started seeing X2 itself as the end of an era in the X series. X3 is a new start. Some ppl will not like the whole idea, some others will, and some others will see it the way I currently do. It's the way things happen, if you asked me...
Sorry if it took much space, I just felt that I had something to comment on the whole post.
What's the problem with the menu system? I didn't notice much of a difference than in X2, despite the fact that the most common menu functions were transfered down with and icon identification system.Trips wrote:THE MENU SYSTEM

I like seeing planets in front of my face, considering that I traveled all the way to a planet in X2, just to see how it was like from a close distance. And as someone testified, it's not the planets that give fps slowdowns.Trips wrote:PLANETS
So much effort was put into these things that they have put an enormous and unnecessary overhead on the game. So much so that other elements have probably been removed to help compensate, i.e. internal docking, warp tunnels, docking and flying a M3 with a M5 and **** pits. Granted they’re not major things, but I would rather have had them than the planets. Though I imagine some find sitting outside a station mesmerised by the pretty colours more enjoyable, just a pity that this large overhead didn’t actually add anything to the game play, just, take away.

X2 Intro Scene: Julian tries to manually override a ship's computer and steal it, by spacewalking to reach it. Wanna do it fast? buy an override software and use it.Trips wrote:CAPTURING SHIPS

If it's not a living universe, then why I hear gunshots all the time, how do I see ships docking and undocking while I'm reading BBS or trading, why I'm getting scared whenever I enter the hell of a Xenon Sector and finally, what are all those ships doing in any sector?Trips wrote:THE LIVING UNIVERSE
Where, I haven’t seen a single thing that adds to the immersion factor of this game over X2 in the slightest, quite the opposite in fact, and I didn’t think that was possible.
I didn't see any lies, I was just troubled from the fact that they were so anxious to release the game in October. It's not entirely complete, yet it is close, very close. They're working on it, they showed with the very first patch that they're not abandoning the game and therefore us, so?Trips wrote:FALSE ADVERTISING
Egosoft have always sailed close to the wind as far as using bold claims to advertise the X series, though in the past you could always argue the claims based on some very flexible personal interpretations. This time they have just plain out and out lied.
They are different, but not THAT different so that you aren't able to distinguish Argon ships from Paranid, Split, Boron or Teladi. Now every ship has the builder race's own design character, style and concept. I like that.Trips wrote:Quote from box:
“Over 200 newly designed fully upgradeable ships and stations to collect and conquer with”
I grant you there may well be over 200 different names, but there is no where close to over 200 DESIGNS, especially if you limit to those which you can actually do all that conquering with. As I said its advertising literature, and it’s false. And this one really annoyed me as it was partly the reason for purchasing it.
They only similarity I found so far, is on station deployment for some sectors, and that all events take place in the Xuniverse. Since XBTF, it's Xuniverse things happen in, having sectors added to it, ships and structures evolving etc.Trips wrote:CYNICAL EXPLOITATION OF THE FANS
Egosoft have a big fan base, due in no small part to the lack of any real competition. Recent events surrounding the volume of traffic shows this. It also proves that the genre isn’t as dead as many people would have us believe, mind you we all knew that. The reason why I believe them to be cynical is that egosoft new this and rather than continuing with the expansion (costing £15-£20) they decided to call it a new game and charge £30.00, safe in the knowledge that there where plenty of people gagging for a new game. Third busiest board in the world was it.

Sounds like you didn't really try. There are solutions to every problem - it is illogical to have the commitment to spend £1500 on a new PC for a game and then not have the commitment to ask Starforce about your problem.
I have never had a problem with Starforce. I didn't even know it was there before.
I reckon that you should try to get it up and running rather then post goodbyes.
