Fine.
All rather curious, really:
But whatever, it's clearly not going to do anything valuable to preserve these threads and I'm seeing fewer reasons to return.
Edit:
More thinkings:
Point is, the number of posts since the move has dwindled, the 'general discussion' revolving around the impending closure. When Quattro arrived, I invited him to the UNCC forums, ending that pathway of 'general discussion'.
How that relates?
If the role-plays were brought here, then they would be the primary function as most irrelevant discussions are already held on the external forums. Would that not follow with the afore-quoted rule?
Sigh. Let me grab my briefcase before the deathblow, aye?
All rather curious, really:
I've never seen someone search into the deep freeze (not beyond page 3, at any rate) for anything. Which is where these threads will quickly sink and prevent being accessible.Provided information about the clans that exist is accessible, recruitment should not be a problem.
But whatever, it's clearly not going to do anything valuable to preserve these threads and I'm seeing fewer reasons to return.
Edit:
More thinkings:
When I asked back on the clan/move thread, what the mods see as RP (namely the capturing of novas, in this place), I don't recall getting an answer.2. If a clan wishes to maintain a primarily role-playing thread, they can do so in the creative forum. While relevant out-of-character discussions are fine, if these turn into general discussion threads or arguments they will simply be locked and the clan will have to fall back on the first option above.

To tell you the truth haven't had much time to spare on capping anything, I've set out on quest to scan every asteriod in the game. I think I've got 10 maybe 15 sectors to go...or is it 20.
Still my fabs are making me money hopefully when I'm done with my survey I'll have enough to afford my Mammoth.
Well the best of luck and profit to you all.

Between FACTS and NOVAEF I hope to create an affiliate system (I'll write one for us
) which will include lots of hidden insults towards certain people and should help the clans stay alive a little. Then people can simply like the to the affilitate site in their sigs. That means that all the clans are more likely to be noticed than if we link to seperate ones.

I suppose we should be thankful that they've actually told us. On some forums the first you know about it is when the thread has suddenly disappeared or been locked.
But somehow I can't force myself to believe that its for the good of the community, there's still a feeling of bitterness.
Glory to the UNCC and down with the Nova horde.

(And Rushyo {and anyone else screaming at the mods}, I agree with Acidic, please try and cool it because it'll just get them locked faster

[Am posting this now as I'm away on Saturday, and I've forgotten when they get locked on Sunday]
He sighs softly and sets a picture frame down in a plain cardboad box. He picks it up silently and shuffles towards the door. He takes a final look around the darkened offices of UNCC-Ego division.
Well, here we are, the end of the 3rd biggest (darn, didn't get up to 1st) thread on the ego forums.
True to form, I've decided to go down swinging.
Firstly, as you can no doubt guess, I'm opposed to this closure. I'm oddly reminded of an event behind-the-scenes of a TV show, whereby the writers went down one path, suddenly realised it was bad, had no way out and continued to an even poorer conclusion. Why bring that up? Because of the series of events through my eyes:
- Moving Clan threads to Creative Universe [on their Role-play content], this is despite UNCC/NOVAEF pointing out that their role-play is handled on their external forums.
- Mods discover that - shock - the clans who said they didn't role-play on the thread that had been moved to the "role-play" section weren't role-playing.
- Locking of clan threads.
I'm still interested by the non-answer I got, whether the mods didn't see it, or wouldn't or couldn't answer it. So I'll give the brief version:
Of course, I don't think it particularly matters. I personally think you just want rid of us. And it's not that fact in itself that annoys me, it's the fact that you don't just say: 'Well, actually, we don't want you. Go away please.' but go through these things.
"Diplomacy -- the art of saying "Nice doggie" till you can find a rock."
- Woody Allen (1935 -
I mentioned this on another thread somewhere, but I do feel as if my money is worth less than other peoples', whos opinions actually seem to count. And considering it appears to be, I don't see why I should spend more money on, for instance, X-OU.
Actually, I rather feel like returning X2, but after a month the store only allows you to trade-in (and I've already got Thief 3 on import).
Another point: it's all grand to look at the bottom of the forum and see the 90000-odd member count. Very impressive. Aside from the minor fact of the 76981 [at last count] members who have never posted, and probably never will. The X-Universe doesn't have an overwhelmingly fantastic fanbase, and some of those who are active have [in a previous poll a few months ago] stated that they wouldn't be interested in paying per month for X-OU. I was one of the people who would've of, but not now, I think. Really, are we trying to whittle down the fanbase to the fanatics with dwindling funds?
Of course, this could all dwindle down after the lock [since it's already useless trying to argue logically now], but some people have long memories...
Do we get a final request?

My logic: considering 95% of general discussion is handled on the external forums (there's been a considerable drop in posts here, you've probably noticed. This also happened before the move because of the forums), if we were to move our NPC/Inter-member RP onto these threads, they would consitute the majority of posts, thus becoming the primary activity of the thread, thus allowing them to remain open as the quote states.2. If a clan wishes to maintain a primarily role-playing thread, they can do so in the creative forum. While relevant out-of-character discussions are fine, if these turn into general discussion threads or arguments they will simply be locked and the clan will have to fall back on the first option above.

I was pretty sure this had been explained in a fair amount of detail already, but I'll happily reiterate.
The two primary reasons for looking to move general clan activity off-site are a) because they tend to dominate the forums which can be quite intimidating for new users and frustrating for non clan members, and b) they are a focus for quite a high number of arguments on the forum which adds a fair bit to the overhead for moderating.
This does not mean that clans are not welcome, nor that their members are not welcome, simply that these forums are not currently an appropriate place for large inter- and intra-clan discussion threads. These threads were moved here to give you the opportunity to retain a presence in the form of an RP thread but, as you have pointed out, this has turned out to be easier to conduct on your own forums.
When EGOSOFT has a multi-player game in the pipeline (as opposed to simply planned for an indeterminate time in the future) then I'm sure they will want to make some dedicated space for clan activities on the forums, complete with dedicated moderators and so on, but for now it doesn't make sense for them to do so.
As previously mentioned, there are links pages accessible from both the homepage of this site and from the "Community" links at the top of every forum page, so I hope you will consider submitting your clan site links for inclusion there. I know you've said no-one ever sees these links, but for anyone seeking to join a clan these are the logical places that they will look.
I hope that you will all decide to stick around and continue enjoying the game and contributing to the community as a whole, and that when X-OU is looking a bit more imminent you will still be active here as a group.

No chance CBJ no chance watsoever, youve brassed off tooo many people to contribute to these forums now, as you can see DR is leaving soon
You say they are your reasons persoanlly I think there not good enough, it just sounds like a big GET LOST to all of us, and how will it "intimidate" new players, surely it would befit them thinking well this game must be good as theres soo many people playing it, and people even make clans, I was a new player about 2 months ago, and this was the first thread I looked at cus of its sheer size, I thought "this looks good", it certainly didnt intimidate me, as a matter of fact it did the opposite it interested me,
Shame your not interested in us back

My second and final post on this thread (haven't really had much of a chance considering I only started posting on these forums recently, and I'm sorry its so long, but I've got a lot to say).
I think you've covered all the main points, DrCBVI, and of course I support them 100%.
I feel the same way about X-OU. I've never bought a permanent online game which requires a monthly fee to play, simply because it is too expensive, X-OU was the first one I was seriously considering, but I'm doubting whether to bother now.
A bit of sentimentality now:
Having bought X2 only a few months ago I was wondering what to do with the freedom I had, I was just cruising around with no clear objective. Then I found this thread and consequently found the UNCC forums and joined, now I had a purpose, to defeat the evil Nova.
WarFrigAte, there's no real point arguing now, the decision has been made, although I was in the same situation a while back, I was drawn to the length of the thread, because it looked good, but that doesn't matter now, none of our points do.
Within a month of the locking, this thread will fall into obsolescence and will be forgotten about beneath the sea of other threads. People like me will not be able to find a purpose for playing X2 on these threads and will just wander off.
It all boils down to the internet equivilant of a good solid kick in the head.
Anyway, enough of that, it won't do any good now.
I'd like to congratulate everyone who has contributed to this thread, one of the longest on these forums, and one of the most interesting and funny (although I haven't got round to reading it start to finish yet, I've just been picking up bits here and there, maybe I will now it is being locked and will not be getting any longer after that).
I'll finish on some encouragement.
If we can stick together and keep going, there'll be some sort of happy ending to all this, as was said in the song:
When you walk through a storm
Keep your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.
(Lyrics from 'You'll Never Walk Alone', quoted from www.sing365.com )
Basically what I want to say is this. Keep optomistic, guys. The situation may seem bad, it may seem like the UNCC will just fade and die now that the thread is being locked, but it can't stay like this forever, something will turn up.
Down with the Nova horde.

Well, it had to happen at some time. The news of this thread being locked is not good news, but we have no control over it, and no say in the matter, so we must simply endure it...
it has been a good thread, i dont quite know how we are going to manage to recruit new members without a permanent presence on this board, but im sure we'll get by, and no doubt we'll be back for X-OU.
So, i'd just like to say a big thanks to the following: My co-founders: Acidic and Quattro, Rushyo for the fantastic forum and encryption, DrCBVI and red assassin for their continued involvement, FuzzyLightning for his rivalry and everyone else who is either a member or a contributor to the UNCC, your efforts are appreciated more than you can imagine...
