I am unworthy in your presence oh Ma..... Ahem! Sorry, too long in the Emperors Mines Sector BUT triple screen? That would make for a passable cockpit view of a Sector, all we need now is cheap rumble seats, sticks and acoustics. I could get the VR output card for my G5 but I think the VR helmets are a bit tacky tech at the moment... end up needing glasses!

X² is wide screen compatible.
I started X² a few days ago in 1360x768, what fits to my 30" 16/9 LCD perfectly.
My screen has a native resolution of 1680x1050 (22") and X2 does not respect a correct image ratio when I select it. I know X3 does. And I have the same problem on the wide screen of my laptop. Thus my conclusion is that X2 is not wide screen compatible except for one or two specific resolution.

X3+2 does not meet they’re criteria because it does stretch, for true wide screen a game should not stretch but add more content for a wider viewing angle.
X3 certainly doesn't appear to stretch on my widescreen monitor at 1680x1050. If you notice, the WSGF doesn't have a linked page for X3 and X3 (they have red links, which on wikis means there's no page). I think they probably evaluated the original versions (at least for X3; X2 might have been patched) and never looked at them again.
Those pictures are all weird aspect ratios though. Can you show us some 16:9 and 16:10 screenshots that show stretching? It might be that it only looks right at "normal" aspect ratios.
By the way, how do you do superscripts for the number in X2 and X3? I couldn't get the normal BBCode "[sup]" tag to work, and quoting someone who used superscript doesn't copy any formatting tag for it.

As stated earlier, I'm running X3 on a 23" Cinema Display at 1920x1200 (widescreen). There is no stretching that I can see. I think some people are confusing screen stretching with the normal stretching at the edge of the screen caused by the 'fish-eye lens' view that's normal for X3. On mine, at least, circular objects in the center of the screen are really circular, contrary to what a stretched image would show.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.
X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.
The fish-eye view allows you to have a greater field of view. Look at the passenger-side rear view mirror on any motor vehicle and you'll see the same effect. To remove it specifically for widescreen displays, they'd have to basically have two versions of the graphics engine, and the subsequent increase in time and effort to do so isn't currently worth it, I'd guess.

I think you're right. Since X3 doesn't have a typical field of view at 4:3 resolutions, it doesn't have one at widescreen resolutions either. The FOV is properly scaled as the aspect ratio changes, at least for typical widescreen ratios.

Well I seem to have started a bit of a discussion here… Ok I was wrong , (well we all make mistakes, said the Darlek climbing off the dustbin ). anyway it does not stretch when in widescreen, and just to prove myself wrong I have a link to a piccy that shows you various screen formats that show the extra space you get in wide formats.
If i was to guess, for x2 to get a patch it might be dual or quad core support. Would definatly come in handy since these games are more cpu than gfx dependent.
