Well, at least they're planning to release a new x-universe news at the end of this month (Friday), and I guess that Bernd will write a piece in it about X:R (as he promised in an interview I think). So at least the loyal fans get some (hopefully new!) info.
Burn the land, boil the sea,

Hmmm!
Do not get your hopes up too much!
His words were I will release what information I can.
His track record on what he has felt he could let us know, has been disappointing.
Remember Deep Silver are applying the gag here!

Sorry!
Sorry Strude,
That is where I am going wrong!
I thought this was an informative thread on the release of REBIRTH, not a wishy washy thread about our own wishful thinking.
'EMBARASMENT' I 'd better climb into little black box and close the lid!

First time poster on this thread. Just worked my way through the entire thread - quite some read - thanks for all the info and thoughts and arguments. Did i say arguments? I meant 'discussions'. All very entertaining.
I just spent a bit of time reviewing the trailer and watching certain sections over and over. Just trying to figure out the highway/superhighway stuff a little more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LabrDe4XJo0
In one section at about 0:48 the scene skips to a station (presume its a station lol) with a greenish asteroid field in the background. If you look near the bottom right and are watching in 1080 res, you can see two lanes of traffic coming together and it looks like some of the 'units' of trafic are pulling a very tight 270 degree turn.
I was thinking to myself 'why would a fast travel highway pull a sharp turn like that' and wondered if the answer was in how stations operate in X-R.
I know from reading this thread and interviews etc that stations are now modular and the connection tubes are out. In my X3TC game i have a lot of open complexes where tubes between what could have been closed loops are replaced by CLS1 ships basically pretending to be tubes.
If you look at all the 'highway'traffic shots throughout the trailer you can see a lot of them look like cargo ships just going from one place to another - but could some of these just be going between one unit and another unit of a single station itself replacing tubes?
That tight, almost 270 turn you can see them pulling looks awkward, and smacks of an invisible tube along which cargo ships are flying to deliver goods from A to B.
Total speculation of course!

Know what ? you still have the 170+ pages from the previous topic to read, it has at least more speculations about everythingIcarusII wrote:First time poster on this thread. Well yes, fans. But someone who has never heard of Egosoft or X series will not know anything.PTR wrote:Well, at least they're planning to release a new x-universe news at the end of this month (Friday), and I guess that Bernd will write a piece in it about X:R (as he promised in an interview I think). So in other words all marketing is useless, right? I will go tell our marketing department when we open a new route, that thay can relax, all those articles cost time and therefore money.perkint wrote:To be fair, releasing videos and dedicating staff costs time which is effectively money. Having a dedicated discussion thread on your own forums costs money? Having at least one person to answer all questions asked here costs money?
But at least releasing an official translation of the presentation would have been a (cheap!) token gesture!
Tim
And no, this is not a dedicated thread. Most people check the forum, see no thread about Rebirth and leave.

Eh, isn't that equal to a -90 degree turn?IcarusII wrote:... it looks like some of the 'units' of trafic are pulling a very tight 270 degree turn ...

I agree. Even when visiting www.egosoft.com you see a banner from X:R and that's it. The banner is no link to a nice article about it. Searching the site gives you a few screenshots and the announcement, nothing more.plynak wrote:... And no, this is not a dedicated thread. The main Egosoft site should be one big advert for X:R, with clear links to the available information. I think this will only cost some time from Egosoft and the attention of (new) people searching for info on X:R will be focused on the game and not on aimlessly trying to find info in the forums.
edit: www.xrebirth.com is even worse. I think that there isn't even a clear description what X:R really is for the newcomer:
This can describe every game that plays out in space. You can even describe 'Dead Space' with this (sort of..).www.xrebirth.com wrote:action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration with fast travel

Riiight.. So, I want to see the 'thread' for generally discussing stuff about X2:The Threat; maybe talk about the plot missions, or best ships - where's the 'dedicated thread' for it, eh?No as it is under X-Universe, while all other games have their own threads.

concerning the Cap.ship combat vs. fighter combat
First post. Had been following the series/forums/several mods since x2. Never registered before as I never achieve being an active community member/consistent player (timewise).
Just registered to the forums to make a comment on the cap. ship issue from earlier pages.
Some players enjoy playing the game as 'Admiral Adama' and some enjoy it as 'Starbuck'. The first x-series suited both game styles. You could sit protected in your capship and command your fleet and watch the battle from distance. Or you could hop in to a fighter and engage the battle/chaos yourself. I tended to switch between both game styles depending on my mood as I believe most players do. The ability to rapidly switch between both was one of the best parts of the 1st x-series. The cap ship combat offered a more tactical gameplay, like somewhat simplified Total War series. While dog fight offered a taste of pure action.
I may live with the limited player ship thingy. But I'm sure I won't feel like 'Admiral Adama' while piloting a fighter.
I hope this won't sacrifice the ability to rapidly change between styles or maybe even sacrifice the entire feeling of the 'tactical' style.

Each of the other games have their own sections for Scripts and Modding and for Tech Support, but none of the X games have their own section for general discussion.plynak wrote:No as it is under X-Universe, while all other games have their own threads.
Can't see much point in a section for Rebirth Scripts and Modding or Rebirth Tech Support until release, and the X Universe section, which is the section where general discussion for any X title takes place, has a thread for Rebirth.

I think this argument is a simple misunderstanding, as you seem to be confusing the terms "thread" and "forum". This forum is for all X-series games; this announcement thread at the top of the forum is dedicated to the discussion of X-Rebirth.plynak wrote:No as it is under X-Universe, while all other games have their own threads.

Didn't post for the long time. Just listening about X-R
.
Judging by the amount of information we have my guess is: game is still in pre-alpha stage, barely enough for trailer they showed to us. We will be lackey if we see finished game at the beginning of 2013. 2012 is too optimistic
Other the that I like the ideas they have for the new game like drones, modular stations, more like solar system layout of sectors, captains for large ships.

Lets hope for Q1 2012 or Q2 2012. 2013 is too pessimistic for me. In 2013 I expect something like X-Rebirth 2.0 with some expansion
