Question for Egosoft
OK, we know that you've been working on Rebirth forever, and it's pretty clear that your original hoped-for release date has been and gone.
The fact that you can continue to allocate resources to mods and tweaks for AP suggests [to me, at least] that you're not squeaking by, trying to eek out resources to pay your developers to get the game written. I think the clincher there was the lack of commentary around a kickstarter-like initiative.
So one question from me would be: is there anything else you need to help you deliver Rebirth? Or, perhaps expressed slightly more selfishly: is there anything you need to help develop it more quickly?
Just curious really... hoping for a reply but understand that any response may have to be guarded to not give too much away. Sincerely hope that development is going as you hope/expect.
Keep up the great work guys...

Not knowing the answer, I'll put it this way:ytene wrote:Or, perhaps expressed slightly more selfishly: is there anything you need to help develop it more quickly?
Do you think that Michelangelo would have needed less time to finish the Sistine chapel if he had more pizza?
Seriously doubt it, some things just take time I guess, no matter how much pizza is there, even though there is never too much pizza, wonders cant be rushed (unless you have Great Engineer spare of course, buts that's a different game

PS.: If you have no clue what so special about the Sistine Chapel is, its time you educate yourself here if you are lazy

I've skipped all previous, just not to waste space. You are right at every point, but you are fighting with windmills.Wrong. And I am not your sparring partner. Stop trolling.
Your point of view is just too narrow - very gamedesigner'ish. You see a game as a set of gameplay mechanics - composable ship/non composable ship, etc... Of course, if you've changed at least one of this mechanics you've got another game, with that point of view. And X:R have changed a lot of mechanics in radical way.
But in context given, you should sse a game as a set of ideas behind the mechanics - that is what define genre and series. IF you do, then you'll realize that ideas are all the same. Composable ship is just modern/more flexible implementation of changeable weapons and upgradeable equipment. Hitmesh is just modern/more realistic implementation of equipment/hardpoint damage, instead of random.
My original point was that you can just take X3:AP and deduct complete picture of X:R out of it given all the information avaiable - and that point still holds, as ideas are the same. You can't deduct X:R from HL2 even if you'll receive very detailed description of every gameplay mechanic difference between them - because that's different genres, different series, different ideas (and same mechanic could be used for implementing different ideas, depending on context (other ideas)). You'll probably will get some kind of Mech-sim game with mountable crowbars.
Do you know how travel worked in X3:AP? Yeap. Do you know that it will be replaced with tradelines (and how it will be replaced, precisely)? Yeap. Do you know how same gameplay mechanic, more or less, worked out it other games? Yeap. Can you predict how it will look like in X:R? Yeap. Are you able to predict how it will affect micro-gameplay, such as fighting, running from enemies, pirate attacks and so-on? Well, probably no. Does it matter when observing the game at large scope? No.
How this ideas would be implemented - that's a question, but it will remain without answer until release. Because, you know, "no battle plan survives contact with the enemy",

I don't know much about Kickstarter, but my understanding is currently it has to be either a US or UK company. As far as I know, Germany is not yet part of Kickstarter. I may be wrong about that.A5PECT wrote:Anyone want to help me get a Kickstarter up and running?
Besides, I imagine such things are tied into the existing publisher, and various other agreements etc already in place.

Doesn't online distribution (primarily Steam) largely eliminate that issue?Fallent wrote:Since it's nearly here (within the next three months I suppose) I wonder if this game is going to have a universal release date? If it releases in America a week ahead of Europe like alot of releases, that would suck.

should do but even on stea, activation dates a staggered, eg america gets it tuesday and europe gets it friday. more kudos to bethesda for forcing everyone to release skyrim on the same date. you see its not impossible you just need the clout to get your own way
lol

I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

As dougeye was kind enough to already say, America tends to get a Tuesday release while Europe tends to get a Friday release. Something around those lines is the normal. Even on Steam Europe tends to get stuffed.Observe wrote:Doesn't online distribution (primarily Steam) largely eliminate that issue?Fallent wrote:Since it's nearly here (within the next three months I suppose) I wonder if this game is going to have a universal release date? Here's hoping because Egosoft is a German company Europe gets it before/same time as America for a change.

Only matters if you are really impatient. I intend to get X:Rebirth when there isFallent wrote:As dougeye was kind enough to already say, America tends to get a Tuesday release while Europe tends to get a Friday release. - -either a NoSteam-Exe available
-or a massive discount that compensates for my dislike of Steam

Gazz in the LT forum:
In X3, piracy is not implemented at all. All the "pirates" that fly around are bands of roaming psychopaths that destroy everything they see without even trying to loot anything.

Personal preference I guess but I love Steam. Met many cool people there, found out about tons of games I never even knew existed, and bought a ton more at 75% discounts.Rabiator der II. wrote:Only matters if you are really impatient. People who've never even heard of the game playing it before me just because they're American... When I've checked these forums a 100 times over the last year and could have to wait... Yup that thought bugs me!
