You do not understand what are station platforms in Rebirth too.
These are landing pads for the Albion where the character can exit and meet NPC. Not quite the same thing than a video in the corner, eh ?
Of course customization feature is cool and allow for more smooth upgrade path, but that's just improvement of we already have - change ships + change weapons.
No, it is not the same. Can you sabotage factory production in X3 ? Can you disable a ship engines ? Can you selectively destroy a turret (not just random equipement as with ID) ? The possibilities are endless, and go far beyond ship/loadout.
And yes, you can't place laser towers around your complex. As modules could be destroyed separately - it IS a complex hub with laser towers. Just tightly placed (as nobody loves to tow stations into complexes - that's boring).
We disagree indeed. There are ways to defend stations in X3, but none equal guns on the stations directly.
In X2 plot was just independent from the player. If you are too slow - it will go without you.
Uh, really ? The only plot event which is (arguably) independent of the player is the destruction of President End. The rest of the plot does not trigger, no matter how long you wait. I have played some long games without touching it.
we don't know much about plot and it's mandatoriness and that's info you can't reveal without spoilers.
Bernd has told this several times, it is not speculation.
And that's not changing gameplay - just switch it off and be happy. Far from being radical change.
Err, you should read the definition of the word "mandatory". There is no off switch (until modding comes).
You can't influence course too much (or you will exit midway). And yes, it's just tradelines (Trade Lanes) from Freelancer with same mechanics (I even hope that they will be interruptible as in Freelancer). So, what is exactly unclear about them?
This again... I never said X or Y feature was unclear or revolutionary in the genre. Just that they do change Rebirth from past games.
Given amount of arguments you've missed out of my post I would rather say that you do not have it and trying to answer only what you have "counterarguments" for.
Wrong. And I am not your sparring partner. Stop trolling.

Ok, guys, let's keep it civil. Discuss the posts, not the posters.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.

RELEASE DATES???
New release info? Nope, Negative, Nada!

A couple months ago I emailed Zavvi about their X:R release date. They were actually pretty honest and said it's only an estimated date. They didnt actually have an exact one. Might be worth sending them an email again, see if anythings changed. I can be hopeful, right?
http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/pc ... 48547.html

Also emailed Sainburys and got a completely generic yeah yeah pre-order with us reply. Load of bull mostly.

On a less than optimistic note, X:R has disappeared from Play.com at the time of posting this.
www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/19862346/X-Reb ... oduct.html

I can't remember the link but if you google it you can find the website of the guy making X:R music. He has a few tracks there you can listen to in advance of the game.

Summed up, see you end of 2013

You need to email the publisher, asking nicely but perhaps more importantly asking the right question e.g. when will they likely be in a position to comunicate the release date.

Bernd's recent letter had some interesting points regarding the release of X3 on steam/linux/mac etc... It kind of implies 2 things:
- The company needs cash and this is another potential revenue stream
- The fact they want to do it internally suggests they have the staff to support the changes, then one has to ask why they aren't on Rebirth 100%? That could mean many things but opting for the more positive view it could mean that some people are nearing completion of their tasks.

The open letter says nothing to indicate that Egosoft needs more cash. What is does say is that the continued support for really old games is not viable without some level of sustained sales in these games, and that Steam can and has been providing these sales.

They are fully working on X Rebirth. For porting the games a new developer was hired.

So its still not known when they release this game ?
Oh well probably a summer 2013 release then so you maximize the sells during the summer, just like basicly all publishers do.

Bit funny though, i get the feeling this game is at a point of "to late to be cancelled" however its " to bugged and to expensive to spend time on".

...and that person is going to do it all by themselves not to mention patch updates for AP (before being hired), adding game controller support to X3 as well as porting the games to other platforms? You don't need a gant chart to see that isn't a workable plan for a solo developer.

So why do it? Cash ah-ha saviour of the universe da da da da dun dun dun dun dun dun... :P

I don't have an issue with that btw Egosoft have every right to present their products to other platforms in this fashion, what Bernd said makes a lot of sense and forward thinking.

Doooooooom..........DOOOooooom...DOOOOOOooom..DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Nah. This is just a normal dev cycle for a game with a new engine. Duke Nukem got passed from developer to developer for years.

Porting by an individual developer is very much a workable plan, as you'd see if you checked out the various threads he's started in the Tech Support and DevNet forums. As for the other tasks, you clearly aren't aware of the role of our tireless team of DevNet helpers. :)

I wonder if that open letter about Steam means the game is close to release and they're starting the PR?

I don't believe so, however I am surprised that they only posted it in the X-Rebirth thread when so much of it is relevant and important to other X games.

Where's the SETA when I need one? I can just speed up the months until release.
