Key point of my post was - "SC is going to be MMO, not single-player oriented game. And Chris Roberts is not known for making good MMOs, so I won't bet so much on his success this time".masternerdguy wrote: From the EVE community perspective a lot of people see the people who couldn't cut it in EVE (because of being anti-social / lazy / carbears) literally migrating to the Star Citizen community as a safe haven. ...
Concerns - Can Rebirth measure up?

Having played EVE for a bit over two years, I can confirm it is not for everyone. At least if you go into unpoliced space, also known as 0.0 (EVE has its own brand of carebears, who rarely leave Empire with its strong NPC police).masternerdguy wrote:From the EVE community perspective a lot of people see the people who couldn't cut it in EVE (because of being anti-social / lazy / carbears) literally migrating to the Star Citizen community as a safe haven.
If you read the Star Citizen forums you'll find some serious cases of entitlement such as people asking for pause buttons during PVP and indestructible property (when you die you don't lose the ship you died in - so no asset destruction, this is also bad for a healthy market economy because it leads to market saturation very fast - see a Freelancer server where everyone flies battleships because there is no loss on death).
Sounding a lot like a doomed MMO to me, I really hope Roberts doesn't take these people seriously. But if he does X Rebirth (and EVE) won't have any trouble![]()
But from a commercial point of view, MMOs succeeding with the brutal asset destruction rules of EVE are the exception. Most of the sucessful MMOs are a lot more carebear.
Now I don't think the exact rules of ship loss in SC have been announced yet, so it is not clear where SC will fall on the scale between EVE and carebear MMO. It has been announced there will be some "ship insurance", which implies that there is a threat of asset loss you might want to insure against.
Gazz in the LT forum:
In X3, piracy is not implemented at all. All the "pirates" that fly around are bands of roaming psychopaths that destroy everything they see without even trying to loot anything.

In SC, ships cost money, real money, do you think they are so stupid as to implement a feature, like a permanent destruction of ships and survive when they are accused of blatantly extorting money from the players, after a Kickstarter campaign promising a free to play MMOG with only microtransactions?

Yes ship cost money. But you are able to make 'fake-game-money' to buy your desired ships.santi wrote:In SC, ships cost money, real money, do you think they are so stupid as to implement a feature, like a permanent destruction of ships and survive when they are accused of blatantly extorting money from the players, after a Kickstarter campaign promising a free to play MMOG with only microtransactions?
Than you can chooses to insure the hull, or not. Meaning if it get's destroid, while under insurance, you will get a replacement. This will however be without any sweet stuff you added.
So yeah, I think this will be the first game where I get an issurancee

I think they will just pump new content (new ships) into the game, so all this bakers' ships will soon be outdated. You know, you need to make money...santi wrote:In SC, ships cost money, real money, do you think they are so stupid as to implement a feature, like a permanent destruction of ships and survive when they are accused of blatantly extorting money from the players, after a Kickstarter campaign promising a free to play MMOG with only microtransactions?
P.S. That's why I actually more wait for X:R then for SC. X:R is a f2p-free save haven.

Vary possable the BACKER ships might become outdated. Then again if the game is balanced well then it would not matter. Also private servers where you can mod the hell out of as well as invite friends to play in should be possible.Night Nord wrote:I think they will just pump new content (new ships) into the game, so all this bakers' ships will soon be outdated. On the off topic of baking. What type of bread would you like to have baked.

Anyways. Rebirth should do well regardless as the ships, story line and what can be done should be different enough to attact players.
