Hi Dave, reaaly admire your work in these video series.
I've watched them all and also learned alot. (Thanks !)

I also buy mistrals 10 at a time. then upgrade at free argon trading station in that sector. Then give them some e-cells. (I've got a mistral parked there loaded with e-cells just for that purpose.)
Then i Jump them to Ianamus zura and upgrade them fully. Then I put 6 at work and leave 4 of them at the equipment dock as a back-up.
Saves a lot of time.

I've only played one start and played it for a year now.
As for the SETA?
I didn't even know about SETA till after 30 hours of play!
I'm not a manual reading person :D
But after toying with the game for 30 hours it dawned on me that I had to be missing something. (The game was starting to get on my nerves because it progressed so slow.)
This forum got me on the right track and made me realise that I needed help. Be it from a manual or from the forums.

You can imagine that my progress good be much further had I read the manual first.
Now my game is 42 days underway. (13 days gained with the use of seta.) And I have 500+ factories and 720 million. I only played the Humble Merchant start and your tutorials tempt me to also try a piracy start.
I wish your tutorials existed when I first visited this forum, man that would have made a huge difference. On the other hand, exploring the game myself was also very much fun.

aaah my story is getting to long and it's going nowhere.
Thanks for the help Dave and succes with the next vids.

Just a line to thank you a for all the tutorial videos... I'm a new player to the game (bought it in the summer Steam offers less than a month ago), and I knew I'd love it because I love EVE, but I wanted a similar game without the online thing, just to play when I wanted and not when my EVE Corporation demanded.

The thing is the game is deep and difficult to start with, but with your tutorials, its been an awesome experience. I'm about 30 hours into the game and really enjoying it, and its probably because of you, I'd feel lost without your tutorials.

THANKS A LOT, MAN... REALLY !!!

dont know if you noticed dave, but you have 2 HEPTs on your mamba.(both on the right side of the list(you see when flying), on bottom), It may be screwing with your auto aim.

Great vids BTW

I'm enjoying every episode of this series. Good tutorial about building complexes and boarding ships.

Still waiting for betty to say something like this : "Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over." After she does something stupid (autopilot)
Nuke 'em till they glow, then shoot 'em in the dark.

Thank you so much for these. There really needed to be a solid video tutorial series for such an in-depth game and you're doing an excellent job. :)

Just curious... the videos are 16:9, at least when you download them from youtube, but the image is 4:3 with blacks in the sides... why you recorded it in 4:3 instead the usual 16:9 ?

Excellent videos Dave, I have had X2 and X3 series for sometime, but have not had the time to really get into them. So these videos are just excellent for someone who is starting out in the world of X3.

Thanks for the time and effort.

Cheers

@juan: My large monitor (28") recently died and I'm using a backup monitor (very small relatively) so my screen resolution is much smaller than it was in the tutorial series. It's the best I can do at the moment.

Roguey wrote:np at all, hopefully a few more people will see your videos and find them useful. I havnt seen them all (just 2) but I do plan to watch them all. However on the first video I could see you done a good job. So that's why I wanted to post some news on them. Keep up the good work!

If you want me to post any more news, or would like to yourself just let me know. I know that posts here can disappear fairly quickly.
I'm new to the X-Series, and basically, if it wasn't for your tutorials I would have deleted the games off my hard drive long ago.

Would have been such a waste too, given the potential of this game.

Thank you Dave

This message is for DaveDowner.. I registered on the forums to say thank you for those excellent tutorial videos. This is an epic game that would have otherwise seemed overwhelming and therefore unplayable were it not for your videos. Definately the most comprehensive, informative, easy to follow and well layed out tutorials i've ever seen for any game.

Well done, Dave.

On an unrelated note, I have a few observations about the game:

1) The AI can be somewhat r******* at times. A few times I've been docked at a station, just undocking and i get rammed(and destroyed) by another ship. Also, the autopilot doesnt bother checking if a particular docking bay is currently occupied...

Captain: Bring us into dock, bay four.
Pilot: Uhhh... there's already a ship in bay fou---
Captain: Bay FOUR, please..
Pilot: Uhhh.. ooookay....
**SMASHHHHKABOOOM****

Also, my autopilot rear-ended a ship I was escorting and got me killed. lol.

2) Sector Traders aren't limited to one sector! I finally saved up the cash to buy a mercury freighter. Then I saved the cash for his software upgrades (500k, ouch!) and i turned him into a sector trader at Power Circle. It worked GREAT for a while, then he stopped. Sat in "stand by" mode. So I thought maybe that sector was 'exhausted' of it's supply/demand dillema. So I sent my trader to a new sector(he was lvl 6 by this point) and told him to sector trade there. I got a prompt asking me his new "range" (how many jumps (0-1) ). So I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but apparently a lvl 6 sector trader can jump to adjacent sectors to trade.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Thanks again! Loving this game.

-Meneliki

P.S.: Couple questions..

1) Can I use jumpdrives in courier missions?
2) If my sector trader decides to trade illegal goods(space fuel), can he get busted? If so, do I take a hit? Or do the cops just blast him to hell?

Lesson 1: Don't let the autopilot do what you can do better.

As for 2, yes, this is common knowledge. When you set them thusly, they're known as Local Traders. A lot of us use higher level Local Traders with a limited jump range as opposed to Universe Traders because LT's are much less prone to dying than UT's, and seem to earn just as much. :)

Your questions:

1) You can use a jumpdrive wherever you wish. Why do you ask?

2) Yes, but the only real consequence is it'll be forced to drop the illegal wares, resulting in lost profits for that run.
Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

X4 is a journey, not a destination. Have fun on your travels.
