If it's not a time-critical task, you can tie this to SIGNAL_CHANGESECTOR.7ate9tin11s wrote:Ah, ok. This fires 20-90 sec after an AI ship moves to a new sector (not sure about spawning) and works instantly on the playership.

well, I ve been using this for about 3 IG days and apart from some minor inconveniences and about two suspected hangups (not sure if it really pins to oos-rebalance) it looks stable. but this still really is an alpha and might mess with your savegames...
it has not messed with mine though and has saved me from a lot of embarassment like loosing a destroyer to a frigging lucky corvette-potshot. you must still take into account, that there is no evasion as of yet and no randomization. some randomness occurs due to different firing sequence of all battle partipants but there is no such thing built in.
as posted above, this project is on hold so this might be a dead-end-street (but it's a good end upt to here)

Looks like YM6TY-01;Fingon 4 is not getting an attack order from the fight script. Might be travelling somewhere...

actually i watched the skrirmish. after hitting the hydra once grilling a nova (probably per CF) it was on "attack all enemies". when nothing much happened i set it to "attack pirate nova" but didn't alter a thing
maybe it's not oos-rebalance problem, but fight / attack script failing to execute or something like this?
gonna do a grep over whole skirmish and all logs (this is a mix of all logs, sorted by time - bash rules!!):

Everytime I see a ;Fingon 4;ATTACK;
it is followed by ;Fingon 4;Lasers fired at;
so everytime the fight script tells the ship to attack, it does so and does damage.
The frequency of a (mobile) ship's attacks is ultimately timed by the low level movement instructions. On average that turns out to be one attack every 5-40 sec.
My script doesn't change when or why the fight script gives the fire order. Only what happens if it does.
The logging of the ATTACK order is right at the start of the script and can only be aborted if the target doesn't exist any more.
So there are definitely no aborted attacks that did not show in the logs.

looks like there should be some further research into why there is such a lot of bias in the regular fightskripts. maybe due to lagging the "reacting" script has a higher probability to ice up ?

If any of those tests results are reproducable and somewhat constant, the effect of engine / rudder tunings could be tested. Adding / removing lots of tunings is easy enough.
Something must be affecting the OOS "movement" and those are the obvious candidates.
Both ships are using the exact same fight script so it must be another difference. Pilot skill has some effects but I don't know yet how it would influence the script. OOS most of the differences would be irrelevant.

out of history, M7 vs. M7, does not really look much round-based to me.

actually we face two problems:
- absurdly high damage values for OOS hits with regular OOS (this is what this rebalance was intended against)
- long stretches of combat, where one opponent fleet simply does not fight back. there was as of yet no intention to rebalance this, because it did not appear as a problem being second order to first problem. now the damage is balanced it begins to shne through.
while this problem has been reported for vanilla TC too, chances are that this events are strengthened by the massive logging and resulting lagging. the logic of this rebalance is roughly, that each regular vanilla attack damage gets discarded and replaced by a recalculated value. consequently if your fleet dies without a word it simply has not fought back (fight-script-wise)
I noticed similar effects when my 6 M6 attacked a K and its 20 fighter escort. 3 M6 died rather soon, but then the K did not fight back until only 1 fighter remained. then it finished off the remaining corvettes.

I suspect the timeout of the movement instructions because that's the least tangible and would have been overlooked easily.
I saw no obvious bug in the fight scripts but that doesn't mean there isn't. That would require serious debugging all throughout the script.

the question is
- can you generate an OOS-rebalance with less logging (in case massive writeouts hamper the timing) ?
- is this a problem that should be passed onwards to ES? If so, can one / you / me put some log lines into the regular fight scripts to get a glimpse what the ships are actually doing?
