Got a few new goodies...so far better than my old 8800GTS 640 but not by much...anyway, two resutls, stock 2.4Ghz and software OC'ed to 2.7Ghz . It shows up as 2.4Ghz anyway. Used to be able to do 3Ghz easily, undervolted to boot, since I got new video card , no luck, only a meager 300Mhz via the motherboard manufacturer software thingie.

First 2.4Ghz

EDIT: Interesting, X3 seems really CPU bound, I mean just a 300Mhz overclock and I gain almost 10fps...I got a spare Wolfdale E7300 2.6Ghz here, but my heatsink is a major PITA to dismount, so I'm not going to. Will be interesting to see how the new intel i7's will perform.

Also, would be nice if we could see some AMD results as well.

My results - I would have expected better from this machine but TC runs like a dog on here on the lowest settings possible (everything on low and 1024x768 - 13fps is Cloudbase South East is a normal for me).

Have tried posting a DXdiag for help to no avail... tried different drivers for graphics, sound and direct x.

Go figure... :(

Why did u run the benchie at 3.2 when ur sig says 3.8?
It was running at 3.8 I think the benchmark just sees my PC as at running at 3.2 because that is the rated speed of the chip I suppose -I'm not very knowledgeable about such things I'm afraid.

I only overclocked it by following instructions from some techno friends on other boards lol

Yeah, noticed your sigs says "runs at around 100fps even in sectors with loads of Asteroids".. but you can only get this running the DEMO at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 with everything off..
I know lol, I don't know why but my PC runs slower on the benchmark than it does on the real game, I think it is because the benchmark is designed to put some strain on your PC for testing purposes.

I often get over 100 fps when playing the actual game at 1650x1050 in fact there is a thread here somewhere where I posted a screenshot of that very thing with a fraps counter in the top right corner clearly showing 125 fps :)

I have a 3870 video card and I use Rivatuner to control the fan speed and monitor the temp. Playing Fallout 3, for example, pushes my video card temp up to around 80 celcius. That usually means the graphics card is being pushed to its limits. It pays off too because I can run it at the max resolution with everything cranked full. Sweet as all heck.

I have run this rolling demo over a dozen times and each time my video card temp does not run over 65 celcius. This kinda seems to suggest that the rolling demo relies more on CPU than GPU. I am not sure if the game is the same way, but does anyone have the same thing happen to them with the game itself?

And does Egosoft have any plans to optimise the game to make more use of the GPU as opposed to the CPU?

Looking at my previous results it seems I get "free" AA , at least up to 8.

Just to see how much would be gained by taking both shaders and textures to medium:

Interesting results...it seems the AA is free for my card at least up to a certain point and the most effective way to increase the FPS is actually overclocking my CPU, which is relatively easy with the Core 2s

The last scene in particular was especially demanding - and it seems to be memory limited. My 256mb card doesn't have enough memory for the scene with AA and AF, so pages to system RAM. Unfortunately that can sometimes take the system RAM beyond physical and that then pages to the hard drive! Frame rate for that scene is 30+ when fitting in the VRAM, 10-15 when paged to physical RAM, and 6-9 when further paged to virtual memory on the hard disk.

Running without AA and AF stops paging to the hard disk, but not to physical ram:

I'm still miffed about the minimum frame rates. In the first scene, everyone's rig - no matter how powerful - always drops near or below 10 fps.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.

Not a bad result, drops below 'good' levels in min FPS on occassion but mostly ok, and pretty good average FPSs.

Hey Guys,
Think I may have won the prize for lowest framerate.

Code: Select all

--------------------------
   X3 - Terran Conflict
--------------------------
Game Version: 1.2.0.0

Operating System:	Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236)
DirectX Version:	DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Graphics Card Info:	NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 [128 MB] Driver: 6.14.0010.9371
CPU Info: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz
Usable System Memory:	1024 MB

Video Settings During Benchmark:
	Screen Resolution:	1280 x 960 * [32], fullscreen
	Using Shader Profile:	1.1
	Antialias Mode: NONE
	Anisotropic Mode:	NONE

Graphics & Shader Settings:
	Texture Quality:	low
	Shader Quality: low
	High Quality Bumpmaps:	disabled
	Environment Mapping:	disabled
	Glow Filter: disabled
	Ship Color Variations:	disabled
	More Dynamic Lights:	disabled
	Used Vertexsize:	40 bytes

Framerates
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene "Trade" 8.3 average fps 2.0 minimum fps 20.0 maximum fps
Scene "Fight" 9.2 average fps 3.0 minimum fps 18.0 maximum fps
Scene "Build" 7.5 average fps 2.0 minimum fps 8.0 maximum fps
Scene "Think" 6.9 average fps 2.0 minimum fps 3.0 maximum fps

Overall average framerate: 8.0 fps
Please note, the average fps for 'think'. If the lowest is 2.0 and the highest is 3.0, then how can the average be 6.9?????? This drops the overall average even lower (6.75 by my reckoning).

Please tell me I win a brand new top spec PC

I think I should switch a few things off next time, but very playable all the same. I havent bought the game yet, but I will. As usual it looks beautiful. I see a lot of Fraps videos hitting YouTube soon. ;)

Have fun all,
Brian :)
