Re: Trump
You know what, no. I'm sorry, but it's far too late for anyone in the GOP to have earned any kind of recognition beyond a couple of them. How many stood up to Trump when he publicly said that he is willing to listen to foreign governments for information on his political opponents? How many stood up to Trump when he told the world he believed Putin's intel over our own? How many stood up to Trump when he made an arms deal with Ukraine contingent upon them publicly announcing investigations into Biden? How many stood up to Trump when he publicly called Neo-Nazis "very fine people"? How many stood up to Trump when he was calling for and cheering at the beatings of members of the press? How many stood up to Trump when he marched his gestapo through our cities to attack unarmed protesters? How many stood up to Trump when he lied over and over and over again about anything COVID related?

It's heart breaking that this is where we are in the country, where a government official standing up for what's right and refusing to choose his party over the country by joining a coup to overthrow the election is so shocking to us that we practically revere him for it.RegisterMe wrote: ↑Tue, 5. 4 years ago, telling someone "A Republican official refused to commit treason to help install the Presidential candidate of his choice" would have elicited a "I would hope so!" response. Now, it's more of a "Well I didn't see that coming!".

Re: Trump
This is the essence of the fundamental issue with Trump's America. The truth is no longer something tangible, but purely down to who said it. Even in this thread, I've seen rational people state something with absolute conviction because a trusted (partisan) source said it was so. We live in an Orwellian world of doublespeak and alternative facts. Genuine information has no place to the polarised. They don't have to discredit it, because they already feel it is default-discredited based on who / which organisation said it.felter wrote: ↑Tue, 5. Biden may be a decent president, but he can't heal those kind of wounds. - I don't think the US political system generates such presidents very often. Am I right in thinking that both Republican and Democrat party leaders are corporate sponsored? Would someone like AOC ever earn a democratic nomination when she says unequivocally that she will only ever be funded by people not business?
Perhaps the silver lining on this malignant orange cloud is the possibility of a third main party? Such things happen very, very rarely, mainly because it can be political suicide, and the kind of charismatics who want power aren't prone to take such a high-risk strategy.

Re: Trump
Yup. They bring in a lot of money from super pacs that are primarily funded by corporate donors and the ultra wealthy. We're talking big tobacco, big pharma, big tech, big banks, media networks, NRA, TV evangelicals, airlines, and so on. By using these pacs, folks skirt the legal limits on political donations set for individuals because there is no limit on donations to a pac and there's no limit on how much a pac can give to any one politician. It's essentially legalized bribery. There's few pacs that scrutinize where their money comes from and will refuse corporate donations, the one in my sig is one of the few that only accepts small donations from individuals.
AOC is one of a handful of progressives in congress and senate that won't accept any money from any of the corporate pacs. It's possible if enough people get sick of the corporate pandering that the likes of Pelosi, Schumer, McConnel, etc. become a thing of the past, especially if the democrats start fielding more progressive candidates in the primaries.

Raffensperger Admits: If Trump Didn’t Falsely Tweet About Our Call, ‘We Would Have Stayed Silent as Well’
https://www.mediaite.com/news/raffenspe ... ostpopular
So Trump had to open his big mouth and say falsehoods, which then prompted the phone call to be released.
I guess Trump never expected the call to be recorded, so he could say all sorts of BS about it.
Still, this call is very bad for Trump, probably even worse then watergate, yet, the GOP still seems to be largely silent on this. Sure Trump will be gone soon, but he still very dangerous. And that is the real concern.

The Scottish Government has confirmed that Donald Trump along with anyone is else is not allowed to travel to Scotland unless it is for an essential reason and as Nicola Sturgeon has put it, coming to play golf is not an essential reason. So if Trump wants to run away from the Inauguration on Jan 20th, he will have to go somewhere else as he is neither wanted or allowed to come to Scotland.

It also turns out the city of Detroit Files Motion to Disbar Lin Wood, Sidney Powell Over 'Kraken' Lawsuit. They are now finding out there are consequences to making wild and speculative claims without any evidence, I hope they think Trump was worth it. Looks like it is hunting season for Trumps lawyers, all we need now is something to happen also to Rudy Giuliani, as there is no one more deserving than him.Vertigo 7 wrote: ↑Wed, 6. Looks like, based on the projected results, both Democratic senate candidates will win in Georgia. Giving Democrats 50 votes, with the tie broken by the future VP (Harris). With a big assist, no doubt, from the tantrums Trump has been throwing the last couple months.
Thanks Trump!

you beat me to it, though, at this time, Ossoff and Perdue are virtually tied with Perdue slightly ahead. Still, it doesn't look like Loeffler is going back to the senate so that's a plus. Here's hoping Ossoff pulls ahead!Falcrack wrote: ↑Wed, 6. Jan 21, 05:25 Looks like, based on the projected results, both Democratic senate candidates will win in Georgia. Re: Trump
The remaining votes are mostly in very blue areas, so I am pretty sure looking at the projected models (which use existing votes to generate probabilties), that Ossoff will pull ahead and Purdue will go home a loser. The NYTimes election needle, at least, gives Ossoff a 95% chance of winning, which in my book is almost a sure bet.Vertigo 7 wrote: ↑Wed, 6. I surely do hope that's accurate. Of course, you know the GOP, they're going to pitch a fit and do everything they can to keep from seating them, something they absolutely wouldn't do if the republican candidates were to win.Falcrack wrote: ↑Wed, 6. Well, this is fantastic news to wake up to. Warnock has been declared winner and Ossoff is ahead by a little under 20k votes. We may have an opportunity to survive a few more years after all.

News in, the dems have won both seats. Looks like the dems now have more control over congress.
I think it will be about time for a Trump tweatstorm meltdown.
good news for the dems, now biden need to be certified. But it seems, violence might erupt in DC soon, Hope not, but it's probably likely.

Trump meltdown and lies from Trump as he now raging over Georgia loss.
Also its been noted that Trump has been pressuring Pence to overturn the result. Even though Pence has no power to do so, But Trump says he can. And now also there is a deeper split within the GOP ranks. At this stage, the GOP needs major reform.
From some news sources, a lot of people are starting to descend into DC, which might spark bad news for that place.
It might not be pretty
