Just after gamma 1.05 I have done a clear save (painful) and back with the sidewinder ... engine sound very faint and feeble....
It was the audio effects that convinced me to buy (they were pretty damn good) ...but now (pretty damn poor)
Since Beta 3.9 sounds have been quieter for some things like the onboard computer I found, this coincides with the new sound options menus. I'm guessing something went slightly wrong.

Has anyone else heard "Friendship drive charging" yet?
Sounds like ... Friendship Drive Charting ,,,, also can no longer hear the 2 and 1 in the countdown..... no longer hear other ships in station and the explosions of smuggler ships trying to enter stations .... Since the end of Beta Sales a lot of the aural atmosphere has been removed ....
Odd enough I have actually decided that coming back to ED in 6 months maybe a much better experience, I liked the Beta but found too many blockers (probs just me as I am a miserable fker at the moment) that stopped me wanting to play more.
My sincere condolences to everyone who purchased this Elite game for any amount between 60-300 $
It will end up on humble bundle for "pay what you want" by the end of 2015, quite a shame they messed it up. Probably they were scared of Star Citizen and rushed the release to be "first", but this game is a complete mess and boring like watching paint dry on the wall. Multiplayer is useless beyond repair too.
Not a big surprise as they have zero online game experience as a studio which biggest title was "Kinectimals".

+100 ! Somewhere DB got an idea that Elite experience is best consumed online. So, we got a pretty good Elite reimplementation that defenitely has the old elite and frontier atmosphere. Problem is there is not much new in the gameplay and they even lost some of the features and added others that are annoying. I am talking here about the lack of auto-pilot that makes doing some relaxed trading runs increasingly tedious and also about the dock/undock procedure where they invested a great deal of effort and that also gets also tedious after you are past your first hundred landings. The rest is really just the old good elite missions. Combat might have added some new aspects to what we had in older games, but it still seems that whoever has the biggest gun wins.
I still can play it a bit, just because the old games got me hooked, but I am really puzzled where DB will find users and cashflow for his inferior creation.

well supposedly they have big plans for the online universe to make it far more interesting then the offline universe would be. We'll have to wait until the games is actually realsed and is up and running before we can decide if thats true or not. At the moment people are judging based on an unfinished test version of the game with little to none of the planned online content active.

They've already mentioned something about the Emperor dying in the latest newsletter. The only problem with providing content like that online is that you might never see it--it's very unlikely I'll be playing the game again until at least a week after Christmas, so what am I going to miss in the two weeks since launch?

A Funeral?...don't worry, I'll send a wreath to the Emperors Palace, and put your name as well as mine, on the wreath label, so you don't feel left out! ...
There are some people who will criticise Elite Dangerous, Frontier Developments and David Braben no matter what they (Frontier) do. Some people have opinions biased in favour of the game, some people have opinions biased against the game.
Certain people (I am sure I don't need to name names) should follow the old Why Don't You program titles message ... Whydon'tyougooutandfindsomethinglessboringinstead? http://youtu.be/BI14wfWJax8?t=46s
(And yes, that was actually a kids program on BBC in the 80's)
I think it has a great base and huge amounts of potential but it often feels a touch hollow and (just my opinion) as a new player I find it very unfriendly in introducing me to the world. I know it has some intro missions but I don't find them very helpful yet either.
When is the proper release date?
I'm very interested, though probably not till release plus a few months for the seemingly inevitable post release patches to fix unexpected problems.
I'm not saying I expect this because Braben, I expect this because that's all new games these days
Plus there's the twinges of pain I still feel from Elite: Beyond the Frontier, that too...
And is there a Mac version coming?

Because DRM? Umong other things DB appeared to be an accomplished liar and after promising to deliver a DRM-free game with offline mode he realized that somebody might actually want to steal it. So, he came up with some BS to explain that offline mode is not possible.
