Such as say, the x franchise? And with x selling through steam, I would say egosoft is self-funded to a large degree these days as well.elexis wrote:self funding or is working on a regular-release franchise
Do your own research, I honestly can't be bothered googling around to find any games currently in pre-release just to win an argument with a fanboi. I am playing the ARMA alpha (which I paid to do) however, and bohemia is fairly similar to egosoft. They just do it right - egosoft could learn quite a lot from them.
And I don't see how you get to set arbitrary rules as to which developers count and which don't - I don't care about how the games are developed, their funding models or if they are working to release dates or not, that's all wish-wash background noise as far as I am concerned. I care about the product, how they get there is their business, and if your concerned that its "unfair" and wish to exclude certain companies from the competition, well bad luck - maybe egosoft should do what these companies are doing if they wish to succeed?
Also, egosoft absolutely cannot be considered to be working without a hard deadline - they said it would be this year some time, that's a dead line as far as I am concerned, and if they miss it, well then that's (another) deadline missed.

The X franchise is not a regular release.
Just because a game is released doesn't mean that the publisher agreement ends. A cut of those X games still goes to DeepSilver. Egosoft are not self funded because they said they were publishing through DeepSilver on the announcement page of X Rebirth.
Bohemia, on the other hand, are self funded.
I don't consider "we hope this year" to be a deadline, it if was then CBJ would have shut up the skeptics already by saying "it's definitely this year".

@hornet, you want more info just sign up to devnet, then sign the NDA enclosed in that to be level 5 and ask to participate in the testing (I am not in devnet btw)
As I stated before until the actual year has gone past I believe the game will be released this year, comments from Bernd and CBJ previously have strongly voiced but not 100% confirmed this to be the case.
They are currently testing a build and I imagine will continue to do for as long as needed or for as long as they possibly can and i'd also imagine the developers have those dates set.
There are only 2 announcements I am expecting to see from this thread, one is in late July confirming they will or will not be showcasing the game at Gamescon and the other late August / September the actual release date, so 2 months of interviews, press releases and releasing of game play videos and teasers otherwise known as the Marketing campaign.
Until those dates I expect nothing but am glad to see the making of video's as they are good.
With Regards to the NDA its a topic that has been disputed ,refuted and just done to death. The majority of developers / publishers have them these days if not a self funded project, all depends how quickly you fill in forms and put ticks in boxes to get access to a game if you realise your actually agreeing to one. I'm sure Arma not being on general release but buy to play alpha had some sort of agreement when you signed up.

Arma was released as a test build due to delays for a 2013 release and some funding issues, as stated by Arma boss.
Issue 50 is dedicated to the new AP update, I will be mighty upset if I dedicate many, many free hours of my time, because it is a community project, to improve a game and for Egosoft to completely ignore my efforts, or worst, share the announcement with Rebirth news, eclipsing the AP announcement.
There is plenty of information available for Rebirth, provided by Egosoft, you cannot find it, then is your problem, not Egosoft.

I will confirm the confirmation of the affirmation that 2013 was stated as the year they are on track for release. My only protestation for this confirmation is for a universal realization that this presentation of information is not a strict determination. Some things can suffer destabilization and run overtime. I am now in preparation for the conglomeration ofDarrosquall wrote: If I remember well, there was a confirm about 2013. I'm looking for a confirm of the confirm.

Hello, if I'm remember correctly then release date 2012 was written very long time on X:R home page (there is 2013 now) http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/info_en.phppjknibbs wrote:Confirmed by whom, exactly? No-one from Egosoft has ever quoted a release date in that year.danpaul88 wrote:Don't forget 2012 was also a confirmed release "date" too...
